Job Purpose

The Senior Category Manager is part of a team of professionals leading a collaborative centralized procurement organization within Scotiabank. They will be responsible for a global category of significant spend associated with external supplier relationships and internal demand/usage. As part of an innovative and high performance team, they will be responsible for the end to end ownership of the category, driving sustainable savings and delivering on significant targets. Technology will enable the Category Manager to drive sustained value through meaningful analytics, enhanced demand management, consolidation of suppliers, increased compliance and governance and enforcement of contracts.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the day to day procurement process (project initiation through to implementation) for projects assigned.
  • As part of a rolling multi-year plan, identifying potential categories for strategic analysis, recommending those that Scotiabank should persue, assembling the correct stakeholders/approvers, collaborating across teams and executing the strategy.
  • Ensuring that the category and sourcing processes executed, deliver the expected results (cost savings, digitization, service, time to market etc.)
  • Supplier Management of top tier suppliers across multiple geographies and businesses.
  • Success is measured by contribution to results, including savings, service and/or quality improvement, process re-engineering benefits, viable and sustainable supplier partnerships, overall organizational satisfaction with supplier arrangements.

  • Experience presenting and selling ideas at multiple levels, internally and externally
  • Strong project management, organizational and time management skills.
  • Previous experience at implementing and improving company processes.
  • The presence, poise, tenacity, flexibility and confidence to influence key senior management and users within the Bank and to develop appropriate professional relationships with suppliers.
  • Category management  and sourcing process experience,
  • Ability to conduct complex spend analysis, supplier price decomposition and benchmarking (advanced excel skills required).
  • Investigative and research skills for developing category and procurement reports on suppliers, trends and categories.
  • Interpersonal and critical thinking skills to draw out business requirements, process maps and business objectives from internal stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of contract terms for negotiation and for providing interpretation and advisory services to internal business stakeholders.
  • Presentation and organizational skills to manage cross-stakeholder meetings from peer to senior executive levels.
  • Ability to work globally, ability to work within different time zones andthe ability  to communicate effectively through email, audio and video conference with staff of various language proficiencies.
  • Ability to speak Spanish would be an asset.

Education/ Experience

  • Minimum: Bachelor's in Business/Commerce; MBA an asset
  • Desirable: Ten years' management experience
