As we’ve grown over the past 10 years, we’ve continued to innovate and expand our product suite. Due to significant ongoing growth, we’re now seeking an experienced Engineer to join our Foundation Analytics team. You’ll help us build the next generation of data foundation systems & products!

Zendesk Data Platform team is responsible for implementing a globally distributed reporting and analytics infrastructure. We provide the foundation for analytics, machine learning and we collaborate with the wider Data Science and Engineering teams.
As a Senior Engineer on the Data team, you’ll be responsible for developing Zendesk’s data platform, which is used heavily by customers. You’ll deliver products used by our Data Scientists and Machine Learning engineers, helping Zendesk deliver high quality ML and AI products for our customers.

    • Write clean and maintainable code to support the team’s delivery commitments.
    • Collaborate closely with fellow engineers to tackle technical challenges.
    • You'll contribute to discussions around technical design and standard methodology.
    • Support the building of a DevOps culture in the team.
    • Champion initiatives to improve the scalability and robustness of our platforms.
    • Work closely with Data Science and Data Product team to increase ML adoption across Zendesk.

What you bring to the role:

    • You'll, ideally, be fluent in one of our core languages - Python, Scala or Java.
    • An enthusiasm in data engineering especially around large scale data processing - experience in Spark would be a bonus!
    • Exposure to AWS infrastructure especially around IAM permission management would be an advantage.
    • Self-managed, dedicated, and with the ability to work independently.
    • Strong problem solving capabilities as well as the flexibility of approach to deal with changing priorities.
    • Experience building scalable and stable software applications.
    • A passion for software development and delivery.
    • Willingness to mentor junior team members.
    • Collaborative and can-do attitude.
    • A burning desire to learn and grow.

What our tech stack looks like:

    • Our code is written in Scala and Python and we manage infrastructure using AWS Cloudformation.
    • The servers live in AWS and all services are deployed to Kubernetes using Docker.
    • Our team use AWS tools like Athena, EMR, and SageMaker.
    • Data is stored in RDS MySQL, Kafka, and AWS S3.
