Position Summary

Located in Canberra- Australia.

The Senior Systems Engineer (Sr SE) is a SENIOR TECHNICAL ROLE within the sales team, which supports sales and promotes customer satisfaction.

The Sr SE primarily provides pre-sales technical engagement with a wide diversity of customers and partners for the specification of products, applications and solutions. This includes presentations, product demonstrations, assessment of potential application of F5 solutions, and the development of account plans.

In collaboration with Account Managers, the Sr SE will leverage their extensive industry and technical knowledge in analysing complex customer needs, creating effective solutions and specifying applicable F5 technologies to solve customer technical and business issues.

The Sr SE will effectively network with customers, partners and internal resources in order to influence, educate and promote desired outcomes.

The Sr SE will deliver impactful presentations to promote F5’s viewpoint, strategy and solutions in sales engagements, public events and learning activities in order to improve skills, knowledge and sales outcomes. The Sr SE will influence customers who deeply understand technology, and will command respect for their expertise and experience.

The Sr SE will also collaborate with, and provide technical leadership to other Systems Engineers and members of the F5 sales team. The Sr SE will act as a mentor and technical reference in an area of technical specialisation.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Create and maintain positive technology-focused relationships with customers, suppliers, partners and colleagues, and act as trusted advisor
  • Lead sales colleagues to build customer and partner technical profiles, account plans and identify sales opportunities
  • Engage with senior customers, and analyse their business opportunities and technical challenges
  • Design, specify and present differentiating solutions that highlight F5 technologies
  • Articulate and demonstrate business and technical value against competitors
  • Deliver proofs-of-concept and competitive bake-off tests
  • Collaborate with, coach and enable F5 business partners to fulfil sales opportunities
  • Enable, coach, mentor and assist colleagues to execute their responsibilities
  • Engage with F5 Product Management, participate in sales development initiatives and provide feedback
  • Uphold F5’s Business Code of Ethics and promptly report violations of the Code or other company policies

Enabling Activities

  • Develop and maintain an expert level of technical knowledge of F5 products, relevant industries, competitive landscape and sales aptitude
  • Consistently provide world-class customer service, negotiation, issue resolution and customer satisfaction
  • Deliver sales pitches and whiteboard presentations from detailed technical staff through CxO level
  • Build an internal network and effectively leverage F5 organisational resources
  • Build an external network, contribute to relevant technical community activities, events and discussions
  • Contribute to the creation of case studies, white papers, and media articles
  • Use Salesforce.com to accurately record status and actions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Language Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Multiple language skills are valued

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong knowledge of computer operating systems, programming, networking, application architectures and application delivery, cyber security, cloud, IT automation, SecOps and DevOps practices
  • Deep domain expertise in multiple relevant technology areas
  • Demonstrable repeated success in solution selling
  • Track record of exceeding customer requirements and expectations
  • Strong established relationships with customer executives and decision-makers
  • Persistence, tenacity and ability to manage challenging situations, and passion for achievement

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years related industry experience
  • 6+ year pre-sales experience
  • BS/BA or equivalent work experience
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills and advanced presentation skills
