Job Description

The House of Commons Digital Services and Real Property is currently looking to staff the Senior Systems Technician position.  

Join our team as a Senior Systems Technician! In this role, you will be accountable for providing senior expertise in technical support, troubleshooting and issue resolution on the most complex requests, malfunctions and problems with multimedia equipment, systems and or audio and or video distribution, master control technologies that support the business requirements of the House of Commons and the Senate of Canada. You will be responsible for leading projects that require design, implementation, and the operation of systems and for providing technical leadership and operational oversight to small teams involved in such initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting analysis and evaluation on various aspects of operational processes, procedures, and lifecycle maintenance of multimedia devices, and for recommending improvements. In addition, you will be responsible for providing advanced-level technical support for live events such as House sittings, committee meetings and special events. 

As part of this position, you must be willing to work onsite five days a week, weekends, shift work, early morning, daytime, and late evening shifts, and potentially be on call/overtime on short notice.

Qualifications

Education :

  • Completion of trade school, college or university degree or diploma in a field related to audio-visual production, technical production, media arts and technology, electrical engineering, electronics or an acceptable combination of education, technical training, and experience.

Experiences :

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in technical support and problem resolution across a wide range of equipment and systems (event, sound, broadcasting, webcasting, videoconferencing, and simultaneous interpretation), including the definition of solutions to technical issues; 
  • Experience in the design, testing and implementation of systems and equipment to respond to unique client and event requirements;  
  • Experience in managing small or medium projects, including the definition of requirements, designing, documenting, testing, training and implementation of a technical solution or system, and in leading small operational and project teams;
  • Experience in dealing with high-level clientele and effectively addressing service requirements and technical problems. 

Assets :

  • Excellent knowledge of various technical equipment in the field (PA system, broadcasting, webcasting, videoconferencing and simultaneous interpretation);
  • Expert level of knowledge and experience within the principles of electronics;
  • Experience setting up equipment racks: reading technical plans and diagrams, managing heat load, cabling, electrics;
  • Experience and/or training in programming Crestron, AMX, QSC, Extron, Media Matrix, Evertz, Televic and Bosch systems;
  • Expert level of knowledge and experience within the principles of networking (types of routers and switches, basic concepts for IP, MAC);
  • Experience in training and mentoring technicians and operators for various equipment and AV systems;
  • Experience proposing solutions for change management.
