Software Engineer III - Athena Trade and Risk Services (Python)

As a Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate & Investment Bank, your role will involve designing, developing, and delivering software components within the Athena ecosystem.

You will work alongside a team of innovative technologists to create advanced solutions that enhance our business operations. Your extensive knowledge in design, analytics, development, coding, testing, and application programming will be crucial in solving complex problems in both business and technical contexts. Your expertise in various technology domains will be relied upon to set strategic direction and address mission-critical challenges.

Athena, a cross-asset platform, is transforming technology at JP Morgan, delivering innovative and efficient applications to a wide range of the firm's business, including sales, trading, operations, risk, and research. As a hands-on developer, you will have the opportunity to work with front office, quants, and other technology teams, solving challenging technical problems. Ideal candidates should have strong computer science foundations and be able to work across different platforms and languages, thriving in a collaborative, fast-changing environment with a high degree of code sharing and reuse. Your focus on innovation and quality of solutions should be evident in your previous professional roles or projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop robust, performant software products and APIs, and enrich existing applications using the Athena Platform. Align development with the overall Markets Athena convergence strategy.
  • Work directly with line of business developers to gather requirements, understand business context and translate this into a set of work items for delivery.
  • Be responsible for the entire software development lifecycle: requirement gathering, design, implementation, testing, and handover to line of business teams.
  • Enhance the team by demonstrating best practice throughout the software development lifecycle: testing, code review, accurate status reporting, focus on application resilience and “operability”.

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills:

  • Formal training or certification on Python (or other Object Oriented Language (Java, C++)) concepts and 3+ years applied experience
  • Proven wide ranging technical experience demonstrating a genuine interest in technical products and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of the products traded in capital markets, business processes and applications underpinning them.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to integrate into a cross region team.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills:

  • Cloud data storage experience, BigData experience.
  • Prior experience of similar Athena eco-system, e.g. Quartz, SecDB.
  • Realtime data feed experience, service-oriented architecture and experience of APIs.
