Boasting a prestigious client list including major brands from News UK to ShortList Media, you will be working on a variety of new and existing projects. You will be reporting directly to the Head of Software Engineering.

The Role

The chosen candidate will work with developers and project managers to help deliver client projects using the latest technology and methods. Design and implement software to help solve a variety of technical and business problems. Work on projects from start to finish as well as maintaining existing applications. Contribute to core Clock services open source projects and help with performance and security analysis.

As a Software Engineer on the tech team, you will be expected to:

  • Work in small teams of developers on various agile projects. Using Node.js, React, Mongodb etc.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of our in house Node.js publishing platform.
  • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion.
  • Actively contribute to help design, implement and improve new and existing sites on behalf of our clients.
  • Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems.
  • Participate in product and/or application definition activities including feature analysis and system design.

What we want

As a Software Engineer on the tech team, you would be expected to:

  • Have strong programming skills with around 2 years experience.
  • Love coding and have a Computing related degree.
  • Follow TDD to the letter and be excited with 100% code coverage.
  • Have experience in JavaScript, Node.js or React
  • Have excellent communications skills and be able to explain complex problems to any audience.
  • Be comfortable using the command line.

Although not as important any of the following would be a bonus:

  • Contribute / maintain an open source project.
  • Have experience in JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experienced using Git, SVN or other source control tools.

Interview Process

To ensure we find the ideal candidate (and don't waste your time or ours) our interview process is made up of 3 steps.

  1. Short one hour remote Coding Test (involving implementing a solution to a simple problem that will allow candidates to demonstrate their ability)
  2. Telephone Interview. via phone/Skype/Google Hangouts.
  3. Interview. This will be held face-to-face at the Clock office.
