The Opportunity

Dolby is transitioning from an ingredient brand to an experience brand, and we’re building direct relationships with consumers. As a software engineer in product development, you will work on a high impact innovation team developing and porting new audio-video technologies for a disruptive consumer application for musicians. This is a technical contributor role and requires strong programming in C/C++ and ability to apply software engineering skills for digital audio-video algorithms prototyping and product implementations for Mobile and PC. The position demands a candidate capable of doing quality work against technical and schedule challenges, following strong software design and process principles.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with product research team to prototype and implement solutions in C/C++
  • Learn, analyze and model audio and video product engineering problems
  • Understand and work with audio interfaces (recording and playback) on various mobile and embedded platforms.
  • Contribute in identifying and specifying performance requirements of algorithms for products
  • Optimize low-level, performance-critical code on digital platforms (Mobile / PC)
  • Write real-time signal processing applications for Mobile and PC platform
  • Experiment to develop solutions to signal processing problems using tools such as Matlab.
  • Contribute and develop ideas for new technologies, tools or methods applicable to assigned tasks.
  • Provide input to the team regarding implementation limitations and suggests alternate approaches.
  • Familiar with software engineering design patterns and apply these to develop well-structured code.
  • Write portable software in C/C++ which is modular, reliable and efficient.
  • Learn and use established software tools (design, development, debugging) and technologies (operating systems, libraries, packages) with expertise.
  • Produce and maintain accurate design documentation and code comments.
  • Design and implement developer tests to ensure software conforms to requirements.
  • Utilize eyes and ear as a test tool for audio-video features development.
  • Lead scoping activities at a sub-module or feature level.
  • Effectively manage time to achieve personal and team goals in an agile development environment
  • Demonstrate a positive and ethical work style.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering or computer science or equivalent.
  • 2+ years’ experience using C/C++ for high-performance applications. Working knowledge in Matlab is highly regarded.
  • Object-oriented software design skills.
  • Basic knowledge of digital signal processing or audio-video compression and processing techniques
  • An understanding of processor architecture for embedded applications
  • Ability to use the eyes and ear as a test tool and as part of the algorithmic development process.
  • An understanding of software design and software lifecycle maintenance.
  • Strong software debugging skills.
  • Desirable to have a high-level understanding of networking protocols
  • Desirable experience with scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python)
  • High level written and verbal communication in both general and technology-specific applications.
  • The ability to work unsupervised when required.

Highly Regarded: Interest and experience in audio visual content production and playback.
