Role Purpose

Merkle, a leading performance marketing agency within CXM Service Line in dentsu International, is looking to grow the team with a CX Solution Partner, specializing in cloud-based marketing technology (MarTech) and data management, to assist the Sales team, and ensure the right MarTech solution is proposed and sold to our clients. 

We seek a senior leader recognized for driving corporate vision and client sales, and who has an entrepreneurial growth spirit. They are a Principal Solution Architect who can straddle both business requirements and technology implementations to deliver MarTech solutions.

They drive collaborations as a Trusted Advisor on CX (Digital Transformation and Data Transformation) topics, for effective teaming within client environment, within dentsu’s/Merkle’s, and with partners’ systems / platforms and relevant solutions.

This role in the Merkle APAC Leadership Team provides clients with holistic technology solutions that define and drive Values and Outcomes with/across all areas of MarTech and CX Transformation, requiring cross-functional expertise across these areas.

The experienced CX Solution Partner will lead pre-sales, value engineering and solutioning on proactive CX transformational programs, as well as lead RFPs to address clients’ need to Win. Also ensuring quality delivery, they will define and orchestrate the right mix of talents, skillsets and geographies to be deployed.

This role will develop an APAC Solution Architecture practice that will help clients navigate through the complexities of integrating MarTech components to the enterprise technologies environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a history of being highly successful at championing, selling and implementing solutions in large and complex corporate environments, and in dynamic and challenging start-ups. Ideally, a candidate with experience building strong partnerships and relationships in marketing services, technology, or similar, resulting in substantial growth – internally and for clients.

They have to be an expert at scaling clients’ marketing functions up to the next level by developing technology solutions from “concept” to implementation. This role requires a strong understanding of CMOs’, CDOs’ and CTOs/CIOs’ needs and how their functions operate to bridge potential disconnects with business sponsors.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and perform MarTech/AdTech Capabilities review for Enterprise Customers across multiple markets

  • Lead and conduct workshops with various stakeholders across different markets to discover customer pain points

  • Develop holistic solution roadmap with a clear articulation of business benefits to the C-Levels

  • Lead and drive Value Engineering with Solution blueprint to solve clients’ challenges with concrete business outcomes (value realization) as Transformational Programs

  • Lead large pre-sales solutioning and transformational/strategic/ integrated RFPs

  • Sales engineering-related solution leadership for digital marketing platform services along with supporting services (analytics, database services)

  • Work closely with alliance partners (Adobe, Salesforce, Google, AWS, Microsoft) and develop expertise in alliance partner platform solutions to enable transformational customer experiences

  • Manage opportunities through the entire sales cycle including client relationships, RFI/RFP responses, pricing, solution presentations, and contract negotiations

  • Think "out of the box” to match technical solutions to business strategies

  • Support the technology delivery organization to ensure the solution fits within the existing tool capabilities, reference architectures, delivery approaches, skillsets, strategic technical direction, pricing and delivery models. 

  • Match client vision to Merkle’s tech offerings, and play a key and critical leadership role to pitch a solution to the client. Be the Tech Team Leader to develop the opportunity through the sales stages for the Sales, Client and Delivery organizations

  • Participate in speaking engagements including “Guru” sessions at Merkle’s C-level invitation-only Executive Client Summits, Annual Client Summits, conference speaking engagements and contribute to Merkle digital marketing blogs

  • Architect and design MarTech solutions that bridge business and technology requirements and ensures usability, accessibility, and performance

  • Work with platform and data-specific architects to design complex cross-channel solutions that involve the integration of various MarTech platforms (Digital Messaging/Campaign Management, Database, CMS, Web Analytics, Decisioning, Personalization, Identity Management, CDP, eCommerce, and Business Intelligence platforms, Loyalty Platforms, Preference Centers, Customer Lookup Applications, vendors/application and sizing)

  • Responsible and accountable for the underlying client technology solution architecture

  • Lead technology conversations with senior management (including C-suite) to present innovative tech strategies to senior client leadership teams - new technology adoption, upgrades of existing technology tools to improve overall operational efficiencies and customer satisfaction

  • Set up, inspire, recruit, coach, grow the APAC Solution Architect Community, and evolve to set up practices over time to scale growth for Merkle

  • Enable countries to pursue new solutioning capabilities (in partnership with Global Merkle Solutioning Group), and to ensure we have capabilities to deliver in APAC (in-market and off-shore)

  • Closely support CGO & CEO to grow APAC Merkle’s integrated solutioning strengths and capabilities. Work closely with COO (on off-shore delivery/solutioning mix), and with Enterprise Growth Leads and Alliance Growth Leads to ensure client engagements and pitches are tight as One Team

  • Work with senior leaders (VP Level) in Merkle, across dentsu, and the client organizations to:

  • - Envision the right solution for the client’s marketing strategy, vision and capabilities, and propose the right solution from among Merkle’s offerings

  • - Organize the company’s overall technical pitch to clients, evolving the message, and ensuring overall pitch success

  • - Build and manage close relationships with client leaders (Business, Marketing and IT)

  • - Build client’s trust

  • - Price the solution

  • - Present and negotiate the delivery model and timing

  • - Oversee the contracting process leading up to final award

  • - Manage the smooth transition to the Merkle delivery team

Person Specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Marketing or Engineering or a related technical field, MBA a plus

  • 15+ years in consulting/solution selling experience with 10+ years in the MarTech/AdTech/Data Management domain

  • Ideally the individual has worked with major consulting firms and with good exposure to the agency business (creative and media)

  • 10+ years of equivalent experience in sales engineering, solution support, MarTech consulting, systems integration, engineering and/or sales

  • Extremely strong customer relationship and people skills

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Ability to influence technical decision makers and executives through technical presentations, and relationship building skills

  • Strong understanding of how marketing cloud platforms integrate into a broader MarTech ecosystem and how to sell the benefits of a well-integrated MarTech ecosystem

  • Working knowledge of how to deliver cloud-based data management deployment projects in support of a broader, well integrated MarTech ecosystem

  • Ability to bridge business and technical requirements to provide a cohesive, seamless solution to scale and perform

  • Ability to develop a viable, scalable, and integrated technology blueprint across all areas of MarTech with feasible technology choices that meet the clients’ requirements and fit in with existing technology

  • Ability to wear the hats of multiple technology across systems integration, technology consulting, and technology solution design and architecture

  • Ability to participate and lead technology discussions with prospects (RFP IC)

  • Experience in leading large-scale technology implementations including understanding of scoping, estimation, and managing timeline/budget

  • Experience in legacy migration and re-platform of technology solution

In-depth knowledge of:

  • Hands-on delivery experience with at least one of the major MarTech vendors – Adobe, Salesforce, AWS, Google

  • Delivery ofdigital messaging solutions with tools like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Marketing Cloud, Braze, MoEngage, Clevertap Insider, etc

  • Real-time application integration

  • Data Solutions and CDP (Tealium, TreasureData, AEP, Salesforce, Segment, mParticle, etc)

  • Data and Cloud Migration to SaaS environment

Working understanding of:

  • Enterprise level content management systems such as Adobe, Sitecore, etc.

  • Integration of real-time site optimization, test and target in tools like Optimizely, Adobe Target, SFMC Interaction Studio

  • Tag management in tools like Google Tag Manager, Ensighten, Tealium iQ, Adobe Launch

  • Concepts and best practices within database architecture, navigating both structured and unstructured data, data processing (ETL and services) and customer identity management
