You will be dedicated to signing on new Suppliers to FoodByUs. Ultimately you help create sales for them by pitching a free listing on our marketplace. You'll meet with potential Suppliers, explain what the FoodByUs 'one-stop-shop' is and sign them on. We sell food to restaurants, they deliver and we take a small commission. (Note: you won't meet with restaurants or other Buyers - that is for another team within FoodByUs)
This role is not volume-based selling. Rather, it is long-term, slow burn and above all else strategic. It is similar to enterprise-level sales - to be successful you need to navigate through large organisations and sell each one on the idea of FoodByUs. If you really love people, really love food, work hard and are super organised then we want to talk to you.
Although you need to be extremely independent for this role, you'll also be supported working with a talented and highly collaborative team of 50 people. One thing we can guarantee is that you will learn a lot working with us.
Your role is to find, on-board and build relationships with wholesale food Suppliers. Each part of the industry is different - from alcohol to fruit & veg and more you'll need to talk to many different types. You are a chameleon - able to talk the talk with each and every industry.
The role responsibilities are:
Sign on Suppliers: This is a fully independent role. You'll research and hunt suppliers down, signing them up to our marketplace so that they can sell food to our network of buyers
Account Management: There is an element of account management in the role, after all these are your hard-earned Suppliers. However, most of the role is new business development and you will be supported on the Account Management side from the rest of the team
Strategically build out the supply network: Think, plan and act. You will take feedback on board from the Buyers and the dedicated FoodByUs team members who work with them, so that you know which product categories we need and you will find Suppliers which appropriately fill out the network
Customer service superstar: You will provide our Suppliers with the very best customer service, helping them both grow every day. There's no problem you can't fix
Creativity: we will work with you to brainstorm new and creative ways to work with our Makers, and we want you to bring your own ideas to the table
To succeed in this role (and more importantly to enjoy it!) you'll need the following attributes:
Love people: you'll spend every single day meeting with and talking to people. So you'll need to be friendly, courteous and passionate about working with others
You love the customer: while you’re no pushover, you keep the customer front-of-mind in everything you do
You get really excited at helping other business's thrive: Your role is to help our Suppliers sell more product via FoodByUs – so you need to have the gift of the gab and you need to love seeing sales increase
Negotiation: You need to get the best prices and best Suppliers for FoodByUs - so you'll need to be a great negotiator and not afraid to be pushy when needed (without damaging the relationship)
Accountability: We're a small team in a dynamic start-up, so you'll need to completely own your tasks. We don't use buzz words like 'get your hands dirty' and 'motivated self-starter' – the reality is you'll be thrown into everything from day one and you need to get tasks done
Passion: You absolutely need to be passionate about food, our community and about start-ups in general – we live and breathe FoodByUs every day and to succeed here you'll need you to heart it as much as we do
Organised: You need to be very organised because you'll be managing a large community of Suppliers. You are used to keeping lists and ticking things off, you hate leaving tasks half-finished, you are probably a little OCD about how you manage your inbox
You’re a do-er: you aren’t afraid to roll your sleeves up and get stuff done – the idea of knowing a solution but not implementing it bugs you to your core
Communication: You must be a friendly, clear and open communicator. This role is all about dealing with people so you need strong written and verbal communication
Team player: We are a friendly and hard-working bunch – it's really important you're a naturally interpersonal and team-focused person. We all rely on each other every day
Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, commerce or a related field viewed favourably – although the right experience is most important and we're open minded
The right experience: We'd like to see you've done sales and customer service before. Also, not at a giant company but rather at a small-medium one where you owned all the pieces.
