Gastroenterologists provide gastroenterology and Hepatology services across both sites with the base being at the hospital. The health service is predominately outpatient and day surgery cases. The two hospitals both have very busy emergency and general medical departments. Both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics are primarily located at the hospital and health service with outpatient services at both sites. There is anesthetic services provided at both sites however the team is based at the hospital. A busy general surgical service is based at the hospital with the health service providing predominately day surgery cases.
A new rehabilitation service is located in a purpose built ward at the health service. There are extensive outpatient services for a range of subspecialty services many of which are provided by visiting specialists from Launceston General Hospital, Royal Hobart Hospital and major hospitals in Victoria. There is also a eight bed Intensive Care unit located at the hospital. Onsite support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive. The Private Hospital is co-located with the Hospital and this facilitates private practice for many of the region’s specialists.
The Rural Clinical School of the University of Tasmania is located on the campus of the hosptial. The Tasmanian Health Service – The hospital participates in a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program with the Rural Clinical School. It is anticipated that the appointee will have significant involvement in the delivery of the Undergraduate education program. The hospital has a close working relationship with the University of Tasmania and it is anticipated that the successful candidate would have the opportunity to be appointed to a University academic position.
The seniority of the University appointment would be negotiated separately with the University.
Accredited training positions for registrars are available in emergency medicine, medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and anesthetics.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist – Gastroenterologist who will work as part of the Gastroenterology team across the North West region. Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the The Hospital has major sites located approximately 50km apart. The position involves management of patients in General Gastroenterology, IBD, chronic liver disease, and both diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy. Experience in capsule endoscopy would be highly regarded.
