This position is for Leica Biosystems team located at Danaher India Development Center (IDC), Bangalore.

IDC is a research and development centre with the vision of accelerating product roadmaps across various Danaher business segments. Started in 2014, the centre now hosts 500+ associates, for multiple Danaher operating companies focusing on Diagnostics, Life Science, and Environmental and Applied Science segments. The operating companies include Beckman Coulter, Radiometer, Leica Biosystems, Danaher Digital, Hach, Leica Microsystems, HemoCue, Videojet and Cepheid.

The IDC workforce comprises of various product engineering teams, working on the development of software and hardware components of cutting-edge products for, Immunoassay, Chemistry, Hematology, Molecular Diagnostics, Oncology, Neurosurgery and Water Quality. IDC has evolved as a centre of excellence for Cloud and data analytics, with significant contributions to the key informatics solutions. The teams consist of highly talented software & hardware engineers and development managers. The teams are supported by local Product managers, Quality & Regulatory and Intellectual property specialists.

The in-house teams work in close coordination with other global R&D centres at US, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Denmark and Sweden. Located at the centre of Bangalore IT HUB, IDC is housed at state of art facility, measuring 120 K Sqft.

Primary job purpose:

The Staff Engineer will own the architectural design and development of software associated with various Imaging applications and workflow solutions according to Leica Biosystems’ processes and quality standards.

Major Responsibilities

  • Be able to design and develop medical software applications and microservices with high-quality design and demonstrating state-of-art development practices.
  • Design technical architecture blueprints for various Imaging applications and workflow systems.
  • Work closely with product management in understanding requirements and translate them down to architecture and design.
  • Maintaining the technology roadmaps for Imaging applications and workflow solution to support future roadmap.
  • Provide technical leadership to ensure teams adhere to technical standards and right practices to maintain application architecture, development infrastructure and technology stack integrity.
  • Drive strategic and tactical decision making from a technology perspective, including software modernization.
  • Develop a proof of concepts to resolve sophisticated technical challenges
  • Mentor, train, and lead developers in line with project objectives and priorities
  • Perform structured code reviews, critiquing code produced by others and providing constructive comment
  • Deliver detailed effort estimates for software design implementation based on Agile principles
  • Investigate and analyze software related issues
  • Own software architecture and design documentation
  • Configure and maintain development and deployment environments with the Leica DevOps Engineer.
  • Managing tech debt backlogs and creating a road map for improvement, including developing the business case for investment in resolving tech debt

Qualifying criteria

Crucial:

  • 12+ years of Software Engineering experience as a software engineer/architect in progressive roles designing, implementing, and productizing software/cloud solutions.
  • Possess 5+ years’ experience driving and managing technical and architectural artefacts; proficiency in micro-service and interface design is required.
  • Proven and demonstrable experience in developing software applications in C#
  • Proficient with one or more programming language: C#, C++, Python
  • Structured and influential communicator: verbally, in written documentation and presentations.
  • Experienced in application architectural design of sophisticated software and promoting technology enhancement with non-technical partners.
  • Strong experience with a variety of SQL and No-SQL database management systems
  • Network and Software security essentials!
  • Experienced in working in a distributed team.
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team of developers through the application of strong technical, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Flexible approach to problems solving with a sense for technical pragmatism and a strong focus on delivery, without sacrificing quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, schedule tradeoffs and opportunistic new ideas with technical employees.
  • Should be able to think strategically and execute methodically and tactically.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience working on medical applications or other highly regulated application domains
  • Experience with DICOM standards and Medical Imaging will be a plus
