Job Description


The Position

Material & Structural Analysis as part of Thermo Fisher Scientific is supporting customers in a Life Science environment with Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) based workflow solutions. Consequently, our New Product Development (NPD) teams are faced with requirements from highly regulated industry (e.g. Pharma) and installs in a biosafety compliant environment.
The offered role is primarily positioned as technical intermediate between our Life Science customer, Business Unit Life Science and the NPD teams, ensuring understanding of the Life Science and biosafety customer requirements and translating it into product requirements. The position is part of a multi-disciplinary group with its own engineering resources for physics, mechanics, electronics, software, specific system engineering, and several technical leads and project managers. Interaction with other groups within NPD and other functions like Operations are extremely important to deliver final results as in newly developed technologies in products delivered to our customers.
As staff scientist you will be responsible for managing the translation from Pharma/biosafety lab customer’s requirements into specific requirements for NPI teams. This will be a combination of technology and process-oriented focus combined with a project or program approach to support the developing organization in the expansion of our focus towards this market area.
The projects will be executed globally, requiring global oversight and harmonization in addressing the Pharma/ Biosafety customer’s requirements resulting in documented evidence and as such building the competence within the NPD organization.
In this role you will also oversee all Non-Standard Request (NSR) projects related to installs in a biosafety environment, and ensuring execution is in alignment with Thermo Fisher’s hazards policy. Being part of the customer contact for technical dialogues, and helping the customer with information needed for their validation effort is key to the success in this role.
The position will report solid into NPD and dotted into global head of Q&R/EHS.
Duties and responsibilities
• Manage the development and delivery of Pharma/biosafety customer requirements in line with our technology roadmap
• Adherence to the PMP and defined delivery schedules.
• Lead and document Bio-Safety risk assessments e.g. on workflows, ensuring risk mitigation is being addressed in the design.
• Implement rigorous review processes and set clear expectations around the key deliverables for this area in the related projects.
• Lead and ensure documentation of specific customer requests, e.g. decontamination process, condition or chemical not impacting tool performance.
• Approve customer special requests related to Pharma/biosafety customer requirements and ensure the proper execution of the resulting commitments.
• Support customers with technical information needed for their validation effort.
• Initiate and execute activities and projects to support the developing change in organization towards the expanding focus on Pharma/biosafety related products and processes.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
• Typically requires a University Degree in Biology, Physics, Engineering or related discipline.
• Typically requires 7-10 years of work experience, of which you have worked in an R&D environment.
• 3+ years proven experience medical and or Pharma regulated development and operational business.
• Familiar with safe microbiological practices & procedures
• Qualified as Biosafety officer or willing to get qualified
• Skilled in project management or willing to expand the experience.
• Ability to build consensus among key stakeholders that may not be under your management control.
• Strong communication ability is required due to the cross-functional nature of this role. An ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences is helpful in this role.
• Ability to manage and assign specific duties and create a constructive and cooperative working relationship.
