HEALTH SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

This is a 10 month and 40 hour work week position that follows the school schedule. The school day starts at 7:25am and the expectation is that the clinic is open prior to that time ( between 6:30am to 6:45am). The clinic has limited hours during the summer, typically all clinic staff return approximately 2.5 weeks prior to school starting in August. Work schedule will vary according to school start times. This position will be based out of Largo High School Clinic, however will assist in covering the following clinics: Gibbs, Boca Ciega, Pinellas Park, and Northeast high school should assistance be needed. The health support technician provides support and manages the clinic flow. Assisting the clinic team in meeting the needs of the clients by performing activities and duties related to documentation, diagnosis, treatment and general health status of the students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reception and initial assessment of patients
  • Triage patients in accordance with clinic procedures
  • Perform lab testing
  • Assist in ordering supplies
  • Maintain an antiseptic environment
  • Provides information to students, school staff, parents and other clinic visitors
  • Answers the clinic phone, schedules clients, and pulls charts
  • Ensures billing information is updated and correct
  • Reviews clinic documentation for accuracy to include clinic consent packets
  • Enters clinic data into the required platforms for review, analysis, and reporting
  • Assist with patient discharge instructions
  • Perform outreach and education to students to include tobacco use, healthy behaviors, healthy food habits, illegal substances, alcohol, and vaping
  • Provide supervision for the safe and accurate self-administration of medications by students, including administering insulin per policy
  • Accurately documents clinic visits
  • Checks insurance of clients
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of clinical functions, basic client care, routine medical, physical and developmental tests.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interview students to obtain health histories and to provide health care information.
  • Ability to keep records, compile data and prepare reports.
  • Ability to administer emergency treatment.
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and accompanying software

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Florida Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant licensure.
  • CPR certification
  • Daily, reliable transportation and ability to travel to various work locations.
