Position Summary

Under the direction and reporting to the Regional Director-Indigenous Health Program, the Indigenous Support Worker provides support/liaison to First Nation, Inuit and Métis clients when they are accessing health services in Southern Health-Santé Sud. The Indigenous Support Worker assists clients to access resources; provide culturally appropriate services; facilitate communication; participates in client case meetings; & acts in accordance with the mission, values, policies and procedures of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

  • Grade 12, GED, or a combination of education and experience relevant to the position may be considered
  • Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous services and resources
  • Knowledge of Indigenous customs, values, and traditions
  • Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated strong effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the general public
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums
  • Good work and attendance record
