This is a Microsoft Windows Systems Administration/Engineering role. The successful candidate must be a subject matter expert with hands-on experience with a wide range of enterprise computing platforms, in particular Intel x86-64 blades and standalone servers running Microsoft Windows Server. The role will be primarily focused on specification gathering, design, configuration, administration, implementation, and day to day support of a variety distributed computing technologies in support of the Firm’s financial services business. The role requires the candidate to be highly proficient in Powershell.
The primary responsibility is MS Windows Server Systems Administration, including L2 and L3 server support plus engineering and automation.
Automation: Develop new, and enhance existing Powershell code and Chef roles/recipes.
Day-to-day, run-the-firm maintenance of the Firm’s entire server estate, (approximately 2300 servers)
Install and configure MS Windows Server onto physical and virtual systems using the Firm’s automated build procedure (MDT+Chef recipes)
Install and support High Availability / Windows Clusters for our MS SQL Database team
Work closely with other subject matter experts, including other Unix, Windows, BCP, Storage, Tape Backup, Network, Datacenter and Database specialists.
Identify, Evaluate and install firmware, OS and application patches using WSUS and chocolatey
Troubleshoot and solve a wide variety of hardware, firmware, software and configuration issues.
Share weekend on-call rotation duties.
Assist in onboarding new Portfolio Management Trading teams by gathering requirements, then designing and implementing solutions that meet business needs.
Provide direction, guidance to datacenter teams performing installs and repairs.
Develop and engineer solutions that improve business challenges in the company’s x86 platforms.
Continually evaluate infrastructure effectiveness, develop technical direction, and upgrade initiatives.
Implement proof-of-concepts for new system designs and participate in and document system design reviews.
Develop processes and procedures to ensure managed environments maintain the highest levels of availability and quality.
Deploy and manage a multi-tenant hosted configuration (AD/File, Systems, Messaging, Security)
Configure Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) user and computer accounts
Create/configure AD Groups and Organizational Units, Objects and Trusts, (GPOs)
Configure user and computer environments by using Group Policy
Configure and analyze server security and security update compliance
Configure and manage Windows Server storage technologies
Configure and manage Distributed File System (DFS)
Configure Network Access Protection (NAP)
Participate in the selection, design, and implementation of new computer equipment, including servers, data storage systems, and backup systems, as well as the systems software that runs on those servers
Participate in the planning, designing and testing of disaster recovery procedures.
Testing and certification of infrastructure stacks within the Windows Server Platforms including high end peripherals, clustering, high availability, and Storage interoperability
Additional hours including weekend work will be required at times.
Participate in performance analysis, proactive troubleshooting, and capacity planning for the enterprise computing environment.
Minimum Qualifications/Skills Required
8+ years’ experience in information technology as a Systems Administrator/Engineer
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field
2+ years’ experience managing a large Active Directory environment of 1,000+ users. Experiences should include deploying and upgrading Active Directory environments, as well as GPO creation and maintenance.
2+ years professional experience installing, administering and supporting Microsoft Windows operating systems
Strong PowerShell scripting experience.
Familiarity with HA / Windows Clustering setup, maintenance and monitoring
Experience with Microsoft DSC or other configuration management technologies (e.g. Chef, Puppet, etc)
Experience with Active Directory integration with other platforms. i.e. Knowledge of Kerberos and LDAP as implemented by Active Directory, and how this integrates with a Linux platform.
Experience with WSUS, Altiris, AD, MS Exchange, VMWare, Netapp, a plus
Experience managing multiple systems environments such as development, testing, and production environments.
