About the Role:
Nielsen’s Global Engineering organization is looking for a Systems Support Engineer to join our growing team in Sydney, Australia. This position provides critical production support for Nielsen Global application platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Management and support of core Linux application platforms – CENTOS/JBOSS-EAP/PGSQL
  • Full stack application management – web, middleware and database
  • Maintain awareness of development cycles, version & release information and coordinate platform upgrades and changes with development teams
  • Application configuration and training of technical users
  • Maintain test and development environments and coordinate deployment activity
  • Monitor application health & participate in after-hours support and issue management
  • Ability to work flexibly across international time zones
  • Take ownership of incidents from monitoring platform across all infrastructure systems, Windows, Linux, Network, Security, Backup
  • Domestic and international travel may be required occasionally (passport required)


Skills & Experience Required:

  • Prior experience in JBOSS EAP and Java application environments highly advantageous
  • Hands-on experience Installing, configuring & managing Linux systems
  • Advanced/Expert level knowledge of Linux
  • Exposure to critical web hosting environments
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset and comfortable working on complex issues
  • Experience with highly critical production environments preferred.
  • Understanding of dev/test/production tiering and associated procedures well regarded

Nice to have:

  • Experience in monitoring platform Zabbix and open-source software
  • Experience with version control and other tools that compliment application development.
  • Expertise in automation ( Ansible – highly desirable)
  • Experience in technology: Cisco switching, VMware vSphere, Nextgen Firewalls, Microsoft Windows Server domain environment well regarded
  • Working knowledge of Linux server security hardening
  • AWS exposure (highly regarded)
  • Understanding of CI/CD Pipeline and GIT repositories (desirable)
