This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast developing IT team at our Global Head Office in Sydney, in a full time, permanent capacity. The System Engineer will play a key role in defining processes and assisting in the implementation of new technologies and processes in a hybrid environment.

In this role you will have the opportunity to be responsible for the design, provisioning, configuration, documentation, operations and maintenance activities on technical systems adopted by Cochlear. The role’s primary focus is on technical platforms belonging to the “Storage and Enterprise” team. As Systems Engineer, you will also support project activities in other technical disciplines and coordinate operations across all Cochlear regions globally.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Collaboration with team members.
  • Responsible for system maintenance and managing incident and service requests.
  • Recommend, design and implement changes and improvements.
  • Improving Cochlear’s “Storage and Enterprise” infrastructure and coordinate the execution of project activities.
  • Strive towards continuous improvement of systems and processes.
  • Develop Business Cases to propose improvements or mitigate risks and design lightweight Project Management Plan. Lead the execution of the project activities, manage stakeholders and risks, and ensure the project is delivered within the agreed terms of the schedule, cost and quality.

You bring (minimum):

  • Professional competency of English written and verbal language skills
  • 5+ years of experience as an VMWare Engineer in a medium to large organisation
  • Engineering level understanding of AWS Infrastructure as a Service product and tools to perform configuration and methodical troubleshooting
  • Proven experience up to AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification level
  • Proven experience with ITIL processes
  • Ability to liaise with 3rd party managed service providers
  • Respond to requests for technical support in a timely manner either onsite or via remote assistance. 24x7 Tier 3 support and on-call responsibilities as required
  • Minimal mastery of key team competencies:

Ideal:

  • Experience up to EMC storage administrator certification level or equivalent
  • Storage administration of enterprise level storage devices.  Be able to perform configuration and methodical troubleshooting within the storage environment
  • Proven experience with enterprise backup systems, for example NetBackup
  • Experience in Linux administration
  • Good level of understanding of Windows Server and AD administration
  • ITIL Certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, English and other languages in use in Cochlear
  • High level of empathy
  • Documentation skills
  • Strong level of creativity
  • Demonstrate the ability to propagate the Team Competencies to other team members
