Key areas of accountability/responsibility

Tax and SOX compliance

  • Prepares and monitors tax statements according to legal and tax regulations and timelines (e.g. income tax declaration, VAT, other taxes, R&D grants…), follows up on legal remedies and appeals
  • Delivers tax consultancy services to business and customers, reviews customer and supplier contracts to ensure tax compliance
  • Identifies risks and manages tax exposure, aligns mitigation actions with Senior management and Corporate tax, drives compliance in documentation i.e. transfer pricing documentation, intercompany agreements, etc.
  • Prepares for and coordinates tax audits, i.e. Corporate income and VAT tax audits, negotiates with tax auditors and authorities
  • Supports the Sr. Manager Accounting and Sr. Manager Audits & SOX in the fulfillment of internal and external audit requirements, i.e. Internal and PWC audits, including follow-up of audit findings and observations

Data integrity and internal controls

  • Designs, implements and monitors processes, controls and systems that ensure data security and integrity and meets legal and reporting requirements
  • Verifies accuracy and completeness of general ledger in alignment with accounting procedures and controls, i.e. drives adherence to O2C, R2R and P2P process, GRNI clearance with the shared services centers and monitors timely and accurate overheads cost recognition (overlap with Inventory Accountant and/or other Accounting specialist to be checked)
  • Evaluates efficiency / effectiveness of accounting processes and internal controls, makes recommendations to optimize
  • Communicates potential data errors and weaknesses
  • Implement financial systems to support internal controls
  • Identifies and corrects bad data, suggests reclassifications

Financial statement preparation and analysis

  • Manages and maintains chart of accounts with GAAP (we want that somebody will take care of the maintenance of our CoA, i.e. driving compelling account descriptions and standardization/codification of posting information)
  • Prepares and monitors financial statements for distribution to senior management
  • Applies knowledge of advanced financial accounting standards (e.g., leases, revenue), shares this knowledge across the team, follows up on changes to the Thermo Fisher Accounting policies
  • Performs quarterly balance sheet analysis and coordinates reviews with Senior management
  • Data analytics: Extracts, transforms and analyzes data to gain insights and improves predictions
  • Understands and deploys best tools / methods to effectively communicate complex topics
  • Develops high quality effective presentations (i.e. engaging, motivating, concise, well-prep) and facilitates decision making
  • Participates in the formulation of solutions to operational issues beyond the finance department


  • Negotiates, manages and monitors contracts for following local insurance policies: car and car park insurance, accident, insurance (“Kollektivunfallversicherung”)
  • Single Point of Contact for insurance issues on site
  • Handles all liability cases and claims including recourse claims (damage of Patheon property by third parties)
  • Benchmarks and challenges current service level, explores alternatives and suggests new models
