FAIR's, Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research, mission is to advance the state of the art of AI through open research. FAIR researchers seek to advance the academic problems surrounding AI. Our research covers the full spectrum of topics related to AI, and to deriving knowledge from data: theory, algorithms, applications, software infrastructure and hardware infrastructure. We actively engage with the research community through publications, open source software, participation in technical conferences and workshops, and collaborations with academia to make significant progress. FAIR researchers work from our offices around the globe: Menlo Park, CA, New York City, Seattle, WA, Montreal, Canada, Paris, France and London, UK. As a Research Technical Program Manager, for CoreML, your job will be to partner with researchers in the domain and manage research projects towards their desired outcomes. You will work closely with FAIR team members, internal partners, academic institutions, external partners, and vendors. To be successful, you will be eliminating barriers to your team's success, clearly communicating the research to all stakeholders and ensuring the big picture stays in focus while delving into the details on specific issues. Ideal team members are adaptable and resilient, eager to attack unfamiliar problems with curiosity and tenacity, and able to use a light touch to find ways to help the team be more efficient. The right candidate will be an excellent communicator, passionate about fundamental research, comfortable with ambiguous environments, and can move fast, bring people together, and focus squarely in advancing the science forward.
Technical Program Manager, FAIR Responsibilities
  • Work with researchers to identify scope, constraints, dependencies, and risks
  • Connect, coordinate between XFN teams on roadmaps and execution
  • Build solid execution plan and help team through research reviews
  • Establish, drive technical collaboration between XFN partners
  • Create communication rhythm and communicate the work broadly, with a goal to create more engagement, collaboration with internal partners
  • Increase awareness of research progress internally across various AI orgs and the company at large
  • Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, communication issues, and drive creative solutions to unblock research
  • Identify resources needed and work closely with leaders to maintain full visibility of the project schedule and potential roadblocks
  • Map dependencies, relationships between research and engineering and manage them effectively
  • Drive process improvements, remove gaps, coordinate and alleviate bottlenecks to advance research
  • Collaborate with researchers to identify high priority research to advance state of the art
Minimum Qualifications
  • M.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years experience in ML/AI domain, focused on CoreML as a domain
  • Ability to work directly with highly technical scientists, engineers, and management
  • Ability to multitask and get things done in a fast paced environment by close collaboration and partnership across different team
  • Ability to communicate complex topics clearly and effectively, thus using communication to drive changes and influence a cross functional team
  • Strong execution skill and ability to drive different group of people towards a common goal, while delivering on time and quality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building, and collaboration with a diverse, cross-functional, global team
  • Self-motivated, proactive with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in AI/ML programs
  • Experience with Ads, Ranking, Personalization research topics
  • Experience in coordinating research to production efforts, effectively
  • Experience operating effectively across multiple teams independently
