Cash Equity and Quantitative Trading Solutions’ team is looking for a project manager to help deliver our business needs in a very fast changing technology space. Our team supports the equity sales and trading business by providing technical solutions and support, including deliveries on regulatory initiatives, algorithmic trading and quantitative trading which will give the candidate an opportunity to manage projects that delivers innovative solutions to complex business asks.

We are looking for an individual, who is eager to learn, is a leader, can work under stressful environment, is highly motivated, is a self-starter and has a results-oriented attitude. As a project manager, the candidate will lead, oversee and ensure the successful delivery of single /multiple projects within scope, time and cost constraint. The position requires understanding of the emerging technologies in trading, experience in managing technical projects, project management (Waterfall and Agile) principles and excellent communication & people management skills.

What we are looking for?

We are looking for someone who has a “Swiss Army Knife” array of skills and can work closely with our Internal Stakeholders (Institutional Equities Sales and Trading, Mid-Office, Compliance), Vendors as well with our own Business Analysts, System Architects, Infrastructure Technology, Application Developers and Systems Operation support teams

As an Intermediate Technology Project Manager, the candidate will be accountable for:

  • Leading and overseeing delivery of technology solutions (from a data and application perspective) to our clients within the constraints of time/cost/scope.
  • Perform financial analysis of cost/benefits of various proposed technology solutions
  • Providing guidance to the project team to ensure efforts are aligned to the project delivery goal.
  • Define project control processes, stakeholder management processes, and project gating documents in adherence to Scotiabank’s EPMO standards.
  • Building and maintaining solid, professional working relationships with peers within the project team and business lines
  • Engaging stakeholders (e.g. risk, legal, audit) as needed for consultation and counsel throughout the course of the project
  • Reporting project status, roadblocks and milestones to the project stakeholder and sponsors throughout the course of the project
  • Prioritizing multiple projects and their deliverables based on the business value to our clients
  • Motivating and fostering high performance team culture throughout the course of the project

Are you the right person for the role?

You Have;

  • Ability to fulfill Project Governance processes (Scotia or Other) through a thorough understanding of the deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to move a project from development through an Operational Readiness process
  • Hands on experience implementing successful small to medium sized projects
  • Illustrated ability to present and lead discussions in various committees (Leadership and Steering)
  • Exposure to Institutional Equity or other Capital Market business lines
  • Experience with application-based projects (understanding of data processing and workflows) is essential
  • Demonstrated skills as a scrum master
  • Superior ability to tackle problems and create innovative solutions
  • Experience working on projects leading business analysts, developers (Java) and quality assurance personnel
  • Ninja skills with Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Must be flexible, pro-active, result oriented with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Undergraduate degree in business or computer science equivalent.
  • PMP designation is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and client relation skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills to resolve any project related issues across technical and business teams, as well as provide support for any ad-hoc tasks required to achieve project scope.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Waterfall and Agile), product development methodologies, and tools.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills to lead and motivate the team in order to achieve project goals.
  • 5+ years of technical work & project experience with system or product implementation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present and articulate information to executive management is required.
  • Sound financial background in managing large scale budgets
