Lafarge is looking for a Mining Technician to join our team at our operations on Texada Island, BC. Texada Island is the largest of BC’s Gulf Islands and can be reached by ferry throughout the day/week from Powell River, BC. Come work in a team environment to provide technical leadership and support to the businesses to help create efficiencies in our operations and the management of the reserve position to ensure sustainable reserves and optimized mining at the Texada Island quarry.
Health & Safety:
Actively promote and participate in company safety programs, projects, and behavior.
Understand and participate in Lafarge best practices and actively help the businesses with implementation of all safety and environmental requirements.
Process & Strategic Priorities:
Work closely with site superintendents on pit and plant optimization.
Utilize Agg Flow to support, design and improve plant efficiencies.
Participate and support superintendents regarding production tracking and targets. Participate in monthly calls outlining improvement opportunities.
Work closely with subcontractors on optimization and cost effectiveness, while ensuring Lafarge safety best practices are being met.
Reserve & Mine Plan Management, Assessment & Reporting:
Participate in the development of various Strategic Plans and help align efforts to achieve their goals.
Participate in field testing, assessment of sites, drilling campaigns and review their related data and documents.
Support in the development of Texada mining and reserve tools, standards, methodologies and best practices and actively help the businesses with implementation.
Analyze, and maintain data, maps, drawings, topo, aerials, documents, and files necessary to help provide accurate reserve assessments and mine plans.
Support the business in the development of short and intermediate term operational (ie stripping) plans for aggregate sites in the context of the Mine Plan.
Ensure accurate mining and reserve data is documented in the Land Information System and in a supporting organized file system.
Assist with the development of mid-term and life of mine planning and reclamation process and system for sites including geological modeling, extraction sequencing, material technical specifications, site planning, and overburden removal to optimize resource recovery, product quality, and operational efficiency.
Accurate, Economical, and Sustainable Reserve position and Mine Plans.
Organization of reserve and mining data, Quality Control documents, and soft copy files.
Verifiable reserve and mining plan management data and documentation.
Cost effective Mining Plans that optimize the Reserve.
Relationships with Others Jobs:
Works closely with General Managers, Operations Managers, and Site Superintendents.
Liaisons with Senior Management, Quality Control, Environment, Finance, and other departments.
Education and Work Experience:
University degree in mining or engineering or related experience
Relevant experience in managing mining and engineering technical services and support, preferably in direct or related mining field
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of mining methods and appropriate planning techniques.
General knowledge of geology pertaining to aggregates.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Agg Flow, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Ability to learn and utilize appropriate Mine Planning software
Problem solving and analytical skills.
Familiarity with state, provincial, and governmental regulations as well as material specifications.
Pre-employment medical including drug & alcohol testing and a criminal record check may be required.
