WSP is currently seeking an exceptional candidate for a full-time  Supervising Water Utilities Engineer  for our  Bellevue, Washington project office.
The candidate is to provide oversight of a Design-Build Contractor’s work during the design and construction phases. The project is a 3.4 mile extension of Link Light Rail from Overlake Transit Center in the Bellevue, WA area, north to Redmond, WA. The project will begin in early August. Design is currently scheduled to reach Issue for Construction in Q2 2021.
This will be a full-time project position for residency in the Bellevue, WA project office from this summer until mid-year 2021. Thereafter, project support can be provided from the Seattle WSP office, with a construction field office in Redmond, WA.
In addition to the specific project need, the candidate will help to grow the firm’s water, wastewater, and stormwater practice in the Seattle, Washington area, including project management, business development, staff development, and managing and completing projects involving water distribution systems, sanitary sewer conveyance systems, and wastewater pump stations, as well as providing utility coordination on water, sewer, drainage, stormwater management and transportation projects.

Position Description:

  • Project management, contractor oversight, coordination with the client.
  • Candidate must have experience working with local utilities and the ability to coordinate with them. Preferred existing relationships.
  • Capable of leading project teams to plan and design municipal water and wastewater infrastructure facilities including pump stations, storage tanks, and treatment plants is highly desirable.
  • Supervise coordination with utility companies on a variety of water, wastewater, drainage, and transportation projects, including the design of utility relocation plans and preparation of associated permits.
  • Demonstrated experience with leading sewer rehabilitation projects and currently hold NASSCO PACP and MACP certificates
  • Supervise the preparation of contract documents including reports, plans, specifications, details, and cost estimates.
Ability to work with other engineering disciplines, owner and design team to implement utility design in a manner that balances cost of construction, maintenance and effective use of right-of-way is essential. Acting as a specialist in providing technical guidance for complex and unique assignments requires an ability to apply diversified knowledge of water-related design principles and practices, as well as independent decision-making on significant technical problems or methods.

Job Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead design teams to plan and design municipal water/wastewater/water resources engineering projects;
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and studies and design using simulation software;
  • Prepare documents including reports, plans, specifications, and anticipated construction costs;
  • Assist in proposal development, project identification, and client service management;
  • Supervise and manage junior engineering staff project workload;
  • Provide technical engineering direction as needed to junior engineering staff to maintain project scope, schedule and budget.
Experience Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years of related post-graduate work as a Civil Engineer
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydraulics, Water Resources, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program
  • Current registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (P.E.) in Washington State.
