Job Description

Position summary
Do you have a technical background and sound commercial acumen? Are you passionate about understanding tech-centric businesses and how their commercial potential is created and communicated?
In the knowledge economy, assets underpinned by intellectual property are pivotal to competitive advantage. IP assets - such as technology, data and brands - have massive upside potential, but are extremely complex to manage and value.
Within Australia’s leading corporate valuations team, Deloitte’s IP Advantage capability specialises is quantifying, managing and monetising tech and other IP assets. Our specialist rating and valuation tools provide visibility of the earnings potential and risk profile of tech assets. These tools support robust valuations, and help our clients unlock hidden value.
Deloitte’s Tech Rating process is a core part of this capability. It provides an integrated assessment of the earnings potential and risk profile of tech assets. Over forty sub-measures assess the functional, legal and economic characteristics of technology.
Due to continued growth, we are currently looking to enhance our Sydney team with a talented Analyst with a specialisation in IP and technology, working within the broader valuations team.
About the Role
The role will provide you the opportunity to work on a range of complex engagements ranging from high-profile transactions involving ASX-listed corporates to disruptive start-up companies. It will include conducting Tech Ratings, and supporting valuation and IP monetisation engagements. We have a broad tech focus, including agritech, biotech, fintech, fueltech, infratech and miningtech.
Working in a supportive and collegial team, and under the supervision of more senior team members, you will be involved in:
  • Market, competitor, financial, capital markets and technology research and benchmarking
  • Analysis of royalty, financial and patent databases
  • Collation and analysis of Tech Rating data
  • Bespoke financial analysis and modelling to facilitate IP and business valuations, including scenario/sensitivity/statistical analysis
  • Preparation of reports, exhibits, letters and other client deliverables.

About You
Our preferred candidate is a natural collaborator and problem solver who is able to think unconventionally while applying commercial logic to the integration of financial and technical information.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
  • Bachelor or Master degree in a technical field (e.g. engineering, life sciences or software)
  • Strong interest in tech valuation, commercialisation and transactions
  • At least 12 months’ work experience, preferably in a tech, IP or corporate finance role
  • While not essential, knowledge of intellectual property will be highly regarded
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Competency in, and a keen interest in further developing, complex valuations/modelling or data analysis
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.

This is an entry level role for an experienced individual seeking to pursue a long-term career in tech-centric valuations and transactions.
