Description


The Wind Engineer will provide support on all engineering aspects to Cubico’s development portfolio of projects in France with a focus on onshore wind projects. The role shall drive the business towards best practice in wind development including site layouts, energy yields and cost forecasting all with a view to minimising LCOE. There will be close collaboration with the global Technical Team to ensure consistent standards across the business and that lessons learned are shared. 


Key Responsibilities


Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead on the turbine engineering aspects of development in particular wind turbine selection and site design for the development projects focussing on LCOE.

  • Provide CAPEX and OPEX forecasts.

  • Review and help optimise energy yields.

  • Maintain current knowledge of turbine market, interacting with suppliers to understand technology developments.

  • In time, act as the technical lead for all aspects of turbine procurement. Work with the global Technical Team to define minimum requirements and specifications in tender packages and participate in negotiations.

  • Support the management and continuous development of the GIS tool to help find and develop new sites. 

  • Assist the Asset Management Team to review turbine performance including End of Warranty inspections and identifying and correcting performance issues. 

  • Attend site visits and factory acceptance tests as required.

  • Support solar PV development.


Skills Knowledge and Expertise


The successful candidate will have: 

  • Degree qualification in mechanical, aeronautical or equivalent engineering discipline. 

  • Demonstrable experience and expertise in developing wind (and ideally solar) projects gained from working on wind power projects for a developer but also could have worked for an asset owner, technical adviser, turbine OEM or turbine service contractor.

  • Significant understanding of the development process in France and in particular the constraints thereof. 

  • Understanding of GIS systems and WindPro. 

  • Detailed knowledge of wind turbine suppliers and wind turbine models.

  • Experience in negotiating turbine supply, and service and maintenance agreements.

  • An ability to understand the technical implications of commercial objectives, identifying the right course of action for long term asset value.

  • Experience in solar PV would be advantageous.

  • Problem-solver with the creativity to identify solutions and the drive to implement them.

  • Strong drive for results, setting challenging goals and exceeding them.   

  • Good understanding of the economics of wind projects. 

  • Solid project management skills.

  • Confident English speaker.
