Position Title: Advisor, EHS
The Safety/EHS Advisor will promote a health, safety, and environmental culture across all levels of employees, ensuring compliance with Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual and related regulations.
Responsibilities
- Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome diverse perspectives, and enable career progression.
- Conduct employee health and safety orientations and site‑specific safety orientations for workers, owners, and clients.
- Train employees in fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control, WHMIS, respiratory protection, and emergency response.
- Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, and related programs.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and behavioral observations.
- Develop workplace plans including emergency evacuations, fire emergencies, traffic controls, and fall protection.
- Distribute safety material, supplies, and equipment as needed to team members.
- Provide safety presentations to clients and promote Aecon safety systems to potential industry clients.
- Participate as a visitor member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
- Inspect project facilities and recommend corrective actions, including coordination of environmental issues.
- Assist the Claims Administrator with workers’ compensation claims and related activities.
- Develop return‑to‑work and modified work programs.
- Manage accident/incident investigations and mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
- Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction oil & gas industry in a Health and Safety role.
- OHS experience within utilities or construction projects is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations for construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of other regulations such as WHMIS, asbestos in construction, designated substances, and smoking in the workplace.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.
- Champion of inclusion and diversity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and strong relationship‑management skills.
- Adaptable to flexible work schedules when required to meet deadlines.
- Valid G driver’s license.
