Senior API Engineer – Google Apigee (API Management)

Premium Remote Friendly Full-time Versioning IBM Python API Google Cloud Platform 95,000 INR

Company:

Marsh Corporate

Description:

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Marsh Tech - TE2A (Enterprise Systems Engineering) team. This role will be based in Pune/Noida. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

Senior API Engineer – Google Apigee (50% DevOps and 50% Development)

We are looking for an experienced API Management professional with strong hands-on expertise in Google Apigee (Edge/X/hybrid) to design, build, secure, and manage our API gateway platform. The ideal candidate will own the full API lifecycle — from proxy design and policy development to deployment automation, security, and performance monitoring.

We will count on you to:

  • Design, develop, and deploy API proxies in Apigee X / Apigee Edge / Apigee hybrid.

  • Build and configure Apigee policies (e.g., OAuth, API Key validation, Quota, Spike Arrest, Threat Protection, Mediation, JavaScript/Java callouts, XML/JSON transformations).

  • Define and implement API security best practices — OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, API key management, rate limiting, and threat protection.

  • Architect API products, developer portals, and monetization models within Apigee.

  • Collaborate with backend/microservices teams to expose services as well-documented, versioned, and secure APIs.

  • Set up CI/CD pipelines for Apigee proxy deployments (using tools like Jenkins, Maven, Apigee Deploy Maven Plugin, GitHub Actions, or Cloud Build).

  • Integrate Apigee with backend systems, identity providers (Okta, Azure AD, etc.), and other GCP services (Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, BigQuery).

  • Monitor API performance, troubleshoot latency/error issues, and optimize proxy performance.

  • Implement API analytics, logging, and monitoring using Apigee Analytics, Stackdriver/Cloud Logging, and custom dashboards.

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture, security, and governance standards.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger), and runbooks.

  • Mentor junior developers on API design standards and Apigee best practices.

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • 3–7+ years of overall API/Integration development experience, with 2+ years of hands-on Google Apigee experience (Edge and/or Apigee X/hybrid).

  • Strong understanding of API Management concepts: proxies, target endpoints, shared flows, policies, fault handling, caching.

  • Proficiency in RESTful API design, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, and API versioning strategies.

  • Experience with API security protocols: OAuth2.0, JWT, SAML, mTLS, API key management.

  • Hands-on scripting experience in JavaScript, Java, or Python for Apigee policy callouts.

  • Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services (IAM, Cloud Load Balancing, VPC, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub).

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Cloud Build) and version control (Git).

  • Familiarity with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/GKE) is a plus, especially for Apigee hybrid deployments.

  • Understanding of API monetization, developer portal setup, and analytics/reporting.

  • Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills for high-throughput API environments.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams (architects, developers, security, and business stakeholders).

What makes you stand out:

  • Google Cloud certification (e.g., Google Cloud Certified – Professional Cloud Architect / Apigee API Engineer certification).

  • Experience with hybrid/multi-cloud API management.

  • Prior experience migrating APIs from legacy gateways (e.g., MuleSoft, IBM API Connect, Kong) to Apigee.

  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and event-driven systems.

Why join our team:

  • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.

  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.

  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
