The role
As a PHP API Developer, you’ll build and maintain backend services and APIs that power our TFC platform that includes routing, monitoring, configuration workflows, and integrations. You’re not building “Yet another CRUD API” but you’re building APIs that orchestrate real systems, in real time.
This full time role is based in Hilversum, Netherlands with hybrid working options, primarily Monday to Friday business hours, 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs in PHP (clean contracts, predictable error models, good versioning).
- Work with event‑driven systems using Kafka and/or RabbitMQ.
- Design and implement data models using relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
- Implement authentication/authorization patterns and API security best practices.
- Write tests (unit/integration) and contribute to a strong CI/CD pipeline.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Front‑end to ship reliably.
What we’re looking for
Must have
- 2+ years building production REST APIs in PHP.
- Solid SQL skills and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL and/or MySQL).
- Understanding of pub‑sub patterns.
- Familiarity with API documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger).
- Strong debugging habits, clear communication, and an ownership mindset.
- Willingness and ability to learn Go (Golang) over time.
Nice to have
- Experience with a modern PHP framework (Symfony, Laravel, or similar).
- Experience with Kafka and/or RabbitMQ (message‑driven thinking, reliable consumption, idempotency).
- Docker/containers and/or Kubernetes exposure.
- Cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP).
- Observability tooling (Grafana/Prometheus, centralized logging, tracing).
- Any exposure to media, broadcast, or real‑time control systems.
Don’t meet every requirement but still interested? Apply anyway. If you’re coachable, curious, and motivated to build great APIs, we’d love to hear from you.
