Job Summary:
The Application Systems Java Developer will be responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining enterprise-level backend applications and services. This role involves working with modern and legacy technologies to build scalable solutions, automate processes, and support IT operations. The developer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust software solutions in a cloud or on-premise environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain backend applications and services using Java, Python, and Perl.
- Build RESTful APIs, microservices, and integration points with internal and external systems.
- Modernize and refactor legacy Perl-based applications into modern architectures.
- Create automation scripts, system tools, and scheduled jobs to support IT operations.
- Write clean, efficient, and scalable code following best practices and coding standards.
- Design and implement SQL queries, stored procedures, and data-processing workflows.
- Participate in architecture discussions, technical design sessions, and sprint planning.
- Debug and resolve complex issues across multiple languages and platforms.
- Deploy applications to cloud or on-premise environments (Azure, AWS, GCP, Linux/Unix).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver technical solutions.
- Maintain documentation for systems, integrations, and processes.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Proficiency in Java (Spring Boot, Maven).
- Proficiency in Python.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, backend architecture, and microservices.
- Strong SQL skills with experience in relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or Ingres.
- Experience with Git or Subversion version control systems.
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across multiple languages and environments.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Hands-on experience with Perl scripting and legacy application maintenance.
- Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with ETL processes, data pipelines, or batch processing.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with legacy system migration projects.

Scheduling:
- Regular shift from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST.
- Position duration is 12+ months with possibility of extension.
