We're seeking an AS/400 RPG Developer to help enhance and refactor a mission-critical materials tracking application running on the IBM i (AS/400) platform. This role combines traditional RPG development with modern source control and AI-assisted coding practices, making it an excellent opportunity for developers who enjoy improving existing systems while embracing new technologies.
Overview
You'll work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to analyze, enhance, and maintain existing RPG applications. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable writing SQL within RPG, refactoring legacy code, documenting solutions, and leveraging GitHub and AI-powered development tools (Codex/CoPilot) to analyze source code and improve productivity and code quality. The project will involve making enhancements to a raw materials tracking software to improve visibility.
Responsibilities
Enhance and maintain enterprise RPG IV / ILE RPG applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform
Refactor existing code to improve performance, maintainability, and overall application design
Utilize GitHub for source control and AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Codex/CoPilot to analyze and enhance existing code
Troubleshoot production issues, debug applications, and support ongoing enhancements
Develop and maintain technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Collaborate with business users and technical teams to gather requirements and deliver effective solutions
Support testing, deployment, and knowledge transfer activities
Required Skills
7+ years of RPG IV / ILE RPG development experience on the IBM i (AS/400) platform
Experience using GitHub for source code management and collaboration.
Experience leveraging GitHub Codex/CoPilot or similar AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality
Experience refactoring and modernizing existing RPG applications
Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and application support best practices
Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the change management tool - TURNOVER (Preferred)
- Experience with SQL skills within RPG development (Preferred)
- Experience developing interfaces and system integrations
- Background supporting manufacturing, warehousing, supply chain, or inventory management systems
