Assembler

The Assembler operates small production equipment and assembles small and medium-sized mechanical components with precision and care. This role focuses on fitting, adjusting, and measuring parts, reading and interpreting blueprints, and performing repair and rework on sub-assemblies and major assemblies as needed. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, has strong attention to detail, and wants to learn and grow in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate small equipment such as presses, magnetizing and demagnetizing equipment, and scanners in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assemble small and medium-sized mechanical parts according to specifications and work instructions.
  • Perform precise fitting and adjustment of parts to ensure proper alignment and function.
  • Use indicators, calipers, gauges, micrometers, and rulers to measure parts and verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and assembly drawings to understand assembly requirements and component placement.
  • Carry out repair and rework of sub-assemblies and major assemblies when defects or issues are identified.
  • Handle strong magnetic components carefully to avoid damage to parts and equipment.
  • Work with adhesives and glues in an enclosed, ventilated area while following safety and handling procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Work independently in a production setting while meeting quality standards and production goals.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to protect yourself, your team, and the products being assembled.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience with mechanical assembly, including small parts assembly and small piece assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for assemblies.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools for assembly work.
  • Skilled in using measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and rulers.
  • Strong basic math skills to support accurate measurement and assembly tasks.
  • Ability to work carefully with delicate parts and strong magnets without causing damage.
  • Comfort working with glues and adhesives in an enclosed but ventilated area.
  • Ability to work independently in a production environment while maintaining quality and productivity.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with schematic or drawing interpretation for mechanical components.
  • Familiarity with magnetizing and demagnetizing equipment.
  • Comfort using scanners and other small production equipment.
  • Interest in learning new skills and growing within a production or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on quality workmanship.

Work Environment

This role is based in a climate-controlled production setting where you primarily work independently at your station. The standard schedule is a first-shift arrangement: Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with the potential for additional hours if you choose to stay later. You regularly work with strong magnetic components that require physical ability to pull them apart safely and carefully, as well as delicate parts that demand precise handling to avoid costly damage. You also work closely with glues and adhesives in an enclosed area equipped with ventilation, so comfort with these conditions is important. The environment emphasizes safety, precision, and individual accountability, supported by appropriate tools, equipment, and clear procedures.

This is a Permanent position based out of Rochester, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $21.00/hr.
