Job Description
- Assembles fabricated parts at floor stations.
- Tests and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. Uses hand tools and power tools to assemble units according to product specifications. Identifies units that fail tests or tolerance levels and repairs as necessary.
- Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. May require related experience and able to show proven capabilities in the field or in a related area.
- Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
- Independent assembly, troubleshooting, and repair of gas quality measurement (GCM) devices, including testing, adjustment, and calibration according to work instructions.
- Prepare the assembly order. Check the order for completeness and accuracy, clarifying as necessary. Assemble materials/parts. Structure the workflow. Procure tools, gauges, etc.
- Manufacture of parts/sample parts: Pre-assemble individual components/assemblies according to drawings or manufacturing instructions.
- Perform the complete assembly of individual devices/sample parts/assemblies according to specifications, possibly supplemented by verbal agreements, primarily under a microscope (this includes soldering). Clarify deviations with specialist departments.
- Conduct preliminary tests: Subject individual components/sample parts/assemblies to preliminary testing according to specifications, possibly supplemented by verbal agreements. Evaluate, assess, and document the results. Identify and correct deviations, informing the specialist department. Independently troubleshoot and, if necessary, rectify errors and record them in the database. Replace defective assemblies and devices, mark them, and forward them with a description of the error.
- Prepare manufacturing documents. Review manufacturing documents and test instructions in consultation with the relevant department/design.
- Calibrate gas quality measurement devices. Calibrate devices according to guidelines and manufacturing instructions. Perform comparative measurements. Evaluate, assess, and document the results. Identify deviations. Independently troubleshoot and, if necessary, rectify errors and record them in the database. Replace defective assemblies and devices, mark them, and forward them with a description of the error.
- Education and Experience: A 3.5-year vocational training, e.g., as an industrial mechanic/mechatronics technician, is required. Participation in training on handling gases is required. Training on working in the gas quality testing laboratory is required. Difficult administrative tasks and/or complex technical work, the completion of which is largely predetermined. Assembling parts and building new products and special orders requires several years of professional experience.
