JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto
Duration: 3 Months
Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for an Automation Test Engineer - API, Java, TestNG/ Cucumber to design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks using Java or Python. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.
Typical Day in Role
- Build automated tests for RESTful APIs, SOAP services, and complex data formats (JSON, XML).
- Validate functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability of enterprise banking applications.
- Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines for continuous quality validation.
- Identify, debug, and resolve defects, contributing to system stability, security, and performance.
- Maintain source code repositories and participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding and quality standards.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation for automation frameworks and testing processes.
- Commit to continuous learning and innovation, staying current with emerging tools, technologies, and QE methodologies.
Must Have Skills
- 5 to 7 years of experience in Quality Engineering, Test Automation, or Software Engineering.
- 5+ years of recent hands-on experience in API automation, preferably using Java, RestAssured, TestNG / Cucumber.
- Deep understanding of microservices and distributed systems testing.
- 5+ years of experience with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and modern SDLC practices.
- 5+ years of recent exposure to contract testing and service integrations.
- 1+ year of experience applying AI-assisted testing and quality analytics in a pragmatic, value-driven way.
- 3+ years of experience with Locust Performance testing tool.
Nice-To-Have Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or Azure or AWS).
- Awareness of Web automation (Playwright) and Mobile automation (Appium with Python) for end-to-end quality oversight is highly preferred.
- Previous experience with Top 5 banks or FI is nice to have.

Education
- Post-secondary education in a related field.
