Backend Engineer – Python | AI Security

We’re working with an early-stage technology company building runtime infrastructure for the safe deployment of AI agents.
Their platform translates organisational policies into technical controls that can be enforced while AI agents are operating. It is already being used in enterprise environments across regulated industries, so this isn’t a theoretical AI safety project. The technology is solving a very current production challenge.
They’re now looking for a Backend Engineer to help develop the core policy evaluation engine.
What you’ll be working on:
- Building and optimising a sub-millisecond policy evaluation runtime
- Developing integrations with LangChain, LangGraph, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft Agent SDK and Claude Code
- Working on hash-chained, tamper-evident audit logging
- Improving structured observability and incident escalation
- Taking ownership of features from design through to production
What we’re looking for:
- Strong Python experience, including FastAPI, async/await and type hints
- Experience with distributed systems
- Knowledge of high-throughput logging or observability
- An understanding of security and data privacy
- Comfortable working independently in a remote, low-meeting environment
Bonus:
- Experience with AI/ML platforms, LangChain, LangGraph or compliance technology.
This is a self-organising environment with plenty of autonomy and very little hierarchy. It will suit someone who enjoys owning their work rather than waiting for tasks to be assigned. You don’t need to tick every single box to have a conversation.
