Backend Developer - Senior (Java

Role Description As a Senior Laravel Developer at Bask Labs, you will design, develop, and maintain robust backend services and APIs for healthcare applications using Laravel and related PHP ecosystems. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate business and clinical requirements into secure, performant, and scalable solutions. Day-to-day responsibilities include architecting application components, implementing new features, refactoring legacy code, and optimizing database queries and application performance. You will participate in code reviews, write automated tests, and contribute to best practices for security, data privacy, and compliance in healthcare environments. This is a full-time remote role, requiring proactive communication, reliable availability for distributed teams, and a strong sense of ownership over deliverables. Qualifications Strong back-end web development skills, including Laravel (or similar PHP frameworks), RESTful API design, and database design and optimization. Proficiency in object-oriented programming (OOP) principles, design patterns, and clean, maintainable code practices. Hands-on experience with front-end development fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and integrating front-end applications with backend APIs. Proven software development experience across the full lifecycle, including requirements analysis, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Solid programming fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, debugging, and performance optimization. Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and modern development workflows in a collaborative team environment. Understanding of security best practices, especially in handling protected health information (PHI);
healthcare or regulated-industry experience is a plus. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.G., AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization (Docker), and microservices architectures is beneficial.
