Backend Java Developer – Senior – EY GDS Spain – Hybrid

This position provides the opportunity to work in an international environment and collaborate with leading financial institutions across Europe and globally. You will be part of high‑performing teams delivering innovative digital transformation solutions for banking clients, utilizing modern technologies and industry best practices.

You will participate in the design, development, and enhancement of enterprise‑grade banking applications, working closely with architects, business analysts, and product owners. You will leverage modern development frameworks and cloud technologies while contributing to mission‑critical systems covering areas such as Payments, Lending, Core Banking, Customer Channels, Risk Management, and Regulatory Reporting.

As a member of our team at the EY GDS office in Málaga, you will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge and experience by working on exciting projects using the latest technologies and approaches. You will support clients in selecting the most suitable business solutions and take part in their digital transformation journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and orchestrate services and microservices.
  • Back‑end Java development for web applications using Spring Boot.
  • Stay up to date with state‑of‑the‑art back‑end development practices and technologies.
  • Work in an agile environment, with autonomy in carrying out tasks while benefiting from strong team support.
  • Be part of a dynamic team where continuous learning is a key priority.

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Between 4 to 5 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Java (Java 11/17 or higher) and related frameworks such as Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
  • Solid experience working with Oracle Database, including schema design, SQL optimisation, stored procedures, and PL/SQL.
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Good understanding of object‑oriented design principles, design patterns, and clean coding practices.
  • Experience with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience working in the Banking or Financial Services industry.
  • Understanding of banking business processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Optional Additional Experience

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Knowledge of containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to event‑driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with banking integrations, Open Banking APIs, SWIFT, SEPA, or payment platforms.
  • Understanding of security standards, authentication protocols, and data protection requirements in financial environments.
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices and automated testing frameworks.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong coding best practices.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Proactive mindset.
  • English level B2 or higher.
