Job Description:
We are looking for a CertifiedOccupational Therapy Assistant to join our team! This position is working in our Easterseals Gammon Academy, which is a certified special education school for youth ages 8-21 that have educational disabilities. Student populations range from students with autism and other neurobehavioral challenges to students with mild cognitive impairments and students with social/emotional disabilities. Our school focuses on academic fundamentals as well as the use of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to help students develop behavioral and social skills. This skill-building occurs in a structured setting, supporting and reinforcing the students’ developing self-confidence and self-esteem.
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is responsible for supporting students in improving fine motor, visual motor, executive functioning and sensory integration skills. This includes supporting staff members in use of strategies to support students, as well.
Additional Responsibilities:
Administer Occupational Therapy programs as planned with and directed by the IEP and the collaborating Occupational Therapist.
Collaborate effectively with the supervising OTR, making use of the planned direct supervision and other opportunities for professional partnership.
Promote education and rehabilitation services and acts as a team member in IEP and treatment planning processes.
Provide a written and/or illustrated exercise program when appropriate.
Follow established departmental procedures and observe safety precautions during treatment implementation.
Build therapeutic relationships with students and maintain an understanding of student plans to support your safety and their treatment.
Document student progress in the medical record in accordance with departmental procedures. Maintain accurate records of student treatment and equipment charges.
Complete billing documentation in an accurate and timely manner, per procedure.
Attend and participates in departmental staff and team meetings, in-service programs and continuing education.
Support training and development of staff members in the area of Occupational Therapy skills and strategies to support students.
Assist in the maintenance and organization of the work area and equipment noting safety and serviceable defects.
Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
Maintain dependable attendance, with minimal unplanned absences.
Show evidence of keeping up with advancements in the rehabilitation field.
Adhere to the department Policy and Procedure Manual and the AOTA Professional Guidelines.
Qualifications:
Associate degree from an ACOTE-accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Current NBCOT certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
Current New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Assistant license in good standing
Ability to meet all state and federal requirements for practice
CPR certified or eligibility for certification
Works well as a rehabilitation team member incorporating initiative, good judgement and communication skills, good health and emotional stability
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm Compensation: $24.04 per hour
