CICS System Programmer

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe CICS System Programmer to support and manage enterprise CICS environments within IBM z/OS systems. This is an infrastructure-focused role responsible for maintaining the stability, performance, and availability of CICS Transaction Server environments. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on experience with CICS subsystem configuration, upgrades, and performance tuning, rather than application-level development.

What You'll Do:

• Platform Stability and Operations Ensure CICS production and test regions are stable, available, and operating efficiently
• Monitor system health and proactively address performance or availability risks
• Support day-to-day operations of enterprise CICS environments Installation, Upgrades and Configuration
• Install, configure, and maintain CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) environments
• Perform system upgrades, patching (PTFs), and version migrations
• Define and maintain: Region startup parameters (DFHSIT) Resource definitions (RDO) System configuration settings
• Performance Monitoring and Tuning Monitor transaction performance and system metrics
• Analyze and troubleshoot: Transaction response times CPU utilization Storage usage Tune system parameters to optimize performance and eliminate bottlenecks
• Troubleshooting and Support Diagnose and resolve complex issues using: Dumps, logs, and traces Abend analysis
• Identify root causes of system-level CICS failures and implement fixes
• Provide support for incident resolution in production environments
• Security and Integration Work with RACF/security teams to manage secure access to CICS resources
• Support integration with enterprise systems, including: DB2 MQ IMS TCP/IP and web services
• Support distributed and Sysplex environments Documentation and Process Maintain accurate system documentation and configuration records
• Ensure all changes follow established ITIL/Service

Required Skills : Required Qualifications 5 years of experience in IBM mainframe (z/OS) environments Strong hands-on experience with: CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) CICS installation, configuration, and maintenance Experience managing: CICS regions and system parameters Resource definitions (RDO) and startup configurations Strong troubleshooting skills for system-level issues, dumps, and performance problems Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools Preferred Qualifications Experience with Sysplex environments Familiarity with monitoring tools (OMEGAMON, MainView, TMON, etc.) Experience integrating CICS with DB2, MQ, IMS, and distributed systems Knowledge of mainframe security practices (RACF) Automation or scripting experience (REXX, Python, Shell) Experience working in financial services or large enterprise environments What Makes This Role a Great Fit You enjoy working at the system and platform level, not application development You are comfortable owning core infrastructure components You thrive in environments where performance, stability, and uptime are critical You have a strong interest in mainframe operations and system internals Important Note This role focuses on administering and supporting the CICS platform itself, not developing applications that run on CICS.
