Cloud Devops AWS Engineer

Location: Sydney

Salary: AUD 150,742–171,215 Annual Gross (indicative, may be subject to internal enhancements)

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled AWS Engineer – L3 Support to serve as the top-tier escalation point for cloud infrastructure issues, lead complex troubleshooting efforts, and drive continuous improvement across AWS operations. This role demands deep technical knowledge of AWS services, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to mentor junior engineers while collaborating across teams.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Escalation Management

  • Act as the highest escalation point for AWS‑related infrastructure and service issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex incidents involving compute, storage, networking, and security services.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to L1 and L2 engineers, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development.

Infrastructure & Automation

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable AWS infrastructure using services such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, Lambda, RDS, and CloudWatch.
  • Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, integrated with GitHub for version control and deployment automation.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, ensuring consistency and repeatability in deployments.

Monitoring & Performance

  • Implement and manage monitoring solutions to ensure system health and performance.
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization across AWS environments.

Process & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to ITIL processes for incident, change, and problem management using ServiceNow.
  • Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
  • Participate in audits and ensure compliance with security and governance policies.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with application, DevOps, and security teams to support cloud‑native solutions.
  • Use Jira for task tracking, sprint planning, and issue resolution.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on incidents, changes, and service improvements.

Essential Skills & Competencies

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, with at least 3+ years in AWS.
  • Strong expertise in AWS core services and architecture.
  • Proficiency in Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub, and scripting (Shell, Python).
  • Experience with container orchestration (ECS, EKS, Docker).
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and tools such as ServiceNow.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect – Professional, DevOps Engineer – Professional).
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments and on‑prem integration.
  • Exposure to monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Splunk.
  • Agile and DevOps methodology experience.
