Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced CMM Programmer with strong expertise in Camio software and Nikon/LK coordinate measuring machines to support dimensional inspection of complex aerospace engine hardware. The role will focus on developing and validating CMM programs, performing precision dimensional inspections, supporting First Article Inspection (FAI), and ensuring compliance with aerospace and OEM quality requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with manufacturing, quality, machining, and materials engineering teams to resolve dimensional and process-related issues. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of metrology, GD&T, blueprint interpretation, 3D CAD models, tight-tolerance inspection, and aerospace manufacturing requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop, edit, validate, and optimize complex CMM programs using Camio software.
- Perform dimensional inspection of aerospace engine components, including blades, vanes, disks, rings, cases, seals, and precision-machined features.
- Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, GD&T, and aerospace OEM specifications.
- Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
- Generate accurate and traceable dimensional inspection reports and measurement results.
- Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, machining, and engineering teams to resolve dimensional and tolerance-related issues.
- Validate CMM programs through dry runs, correlation checks, and measurement repeatability studies.
- Support CMM calibration, maintenance, and performance verification activities.
- Maintain revision control for CMM programs, fixtures, inspection plans, and related documentation.
- Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives related to metrology and inspection processes.
- Inspect tight-tolerance, thin-wall, and complex geometries using appropriate measurement strategies.
- Apply metrology practices for aerospace materials such as Inconel, Waspaloy, and Titanium.
- Develop standardized CMM program templates and macros to improve programming efficiency and inspection consistency.
- Conduct correlation studies between CMMs and different measurement methods.
- Develop conditional inspection routines using Calypso for variable part conditions and inspection requirements.
- Utilize VB scripting to automate repetitive CMM tasks, customize measurement routines, and generate specialized reports.
- Parse and analyze CMM output data for statistical analysis, trend monitoring, and quality-system integration.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- 2 5+ years of experience in CMM programming or metrology within aerospace or precision manufacturing.
- Strong proficiency in Camio software with hands-on experience operating LK/Nikon CMM equipment.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and 3D CAD/model interpretation.
- Experience inspecting complex, tight-tolerance aerospace or precision-machined components.
- Knowledge of AS9100, AS9102, FAI, and aerospace OEM dimensional requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot measurement issues related to fixturing, environmental conditions, part geometry, machine capability, and CMM program setup.
- Experience creating accurate, clear, and traceable dimensional inspection reports.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 2 5+ years of experience in a metal manufacturing, aerospace, or precision inspection environment.
- Experience inspecting engine rotating hardware such as airfoils, rotors, disks, and seals.
- Familiarity with PC-DMIS/Hexagon, Calypso, GOM, PolyWorks, or FARO laser scanning.
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing, MRO, or engine manufacturing/build support.
- Understanding of SPC, MSA, measurement systems analysis, and dimensional analysis.
- Experience with Model-Based Definition (MBD) and digital inspection workflows.
