As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Computer Network and Systems Engineer to join our expanding technology team based in Darwin, Northern Territory.
About the Role
The Cloud Network and Systems Engineer will work within RDS’s AWS Managed Services / Cloud Operations function to design, configure, monitor, troubleshoot and optimise cloud network and systems infrastructure supporting business-critical hosted applications.
This role is responsible for maintaining reliable, secure and high-performing cloud network and system environments. The successful candidate will support cloud infrastructure operations, system availability, incident resolution, patch management, capacity management, configuration management and operational readiness across client environments.
This is a full-time ongoing role suitable for an experienced network and systems engineering professional with strong cloud infrastructure, systems administration and operational support experience.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
* Designing, configuring, deploying and maintaining AWS-based cloud network and systems infrastructure supporting business-critical hosted applications.
* Configuring and managing AWS networking components including VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, VPN connectivity and related cloud network controls.
* Monitoring cloud infrastructure, network performance, system availability, capacity and operational health using monitoring and alerting tools.
* Investigating, troubleshooting and resolving complex network, server, cloud infrastructure and system availability issues.
* Performing patch management, system upgrades, configuration changes and infrastructure improvements across cloud and server environments.
* Supporting disaster recovery, backup, access control, system resilience and operational readiness of hosted environments.
* Assessing network and system architecture and recommending improvements to performance, scalability, resilience, reliability and security.
* Maintaining accurate technical documentation including network diagrams, configuration records, incident reports, change records and operational procedures.
* Supporting application deployment environments and working with software engineering, application support and project delivery teams to ensure infrastructure readiness.
* Assisting with system hardening, security benchmarking and compliance with internal policies, client requirements and information security practices.
* Participating in incident management, change management and problem management processes for managed cloud and systems environments.
* Supporting client environments across ongoing managed services, implementation projects and operational support activities.
Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate must have:
* Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in computer network and systems engineering, cloud infrastructure engineering, systems engineering or a closely related role.
* Strong knowledge of cloud network and systems infrastructure, preferably in AWS environments.
* Experience configuring and supporting cloud networking components such as VPCs, subnets, routing, VPNs, security groups and access controls.
* Experience with Linux and/or Windows server environments, system configuration, patching, monitoring and troubleshooting.
* Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing, firewalls and network security principles.
* Experience with infrastructure monitoring, alerting, incident response and performance troubleshooting.
* Experience maintaining technical documentation, network diagrams, configuration records and change records.
* Understanding of backup, disaster recovery, high availability and system resilience practices.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
* Ability to work collaboratively with cloud operations, application support, software engineering and project delivery teams.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
