Key Accountabilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and manage a team of five accounting professionals, ensuring high performance through goal setting, coaching, mentoring, and ongoing development.
  • Oversee daily team operations, providing guidance, training, and performance management to drive accountability and effectiveness.

Operational Finance & Business Partnership

  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to ensure consistency and accuracy in operational reporting and analysis.
  • Participate in operational meetings to identify improvement opportunities, develop solutions, and recommend actionable strategies.
  • Deliver reporting and insights across key operational metrics, including:
    • Yield and labour efficiency
    • SKU mix impact on yield, labour, and expenses
    • Labour and operating costs
    • Inventory levels and days inventory outstanding (DIO) trends
    • Capital investment tracking versus approved plans
    • Cost savings initiatives and performance tracking

Executive Reporting & Communication

  • Present financial results and analysis to senior leadership, including executives, with clear insights into year-over-year performance and key business drivers.
  • Support preparation and delivery of financial and operational updates for executive review meetings.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to align financial results with business performance.

Financial Reporting & Close Process

  • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting.
  • Prepare detailed variance analyses and provide business insights across all financial results.
  • Enforce reporting timelines and improve efficiency of daily, weekly, and monthly close activities across departments.

Process Improvement & Efficiency

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accounting processes and team efficiency.
  • Shift team focus toward value-added analysis and strategic activities through automation and process optimization.

Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Monitor cash flow, report on cash movements, and manage working capital levels to support financial health.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Establish, maintain, and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly, with timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Perform analytical reviews of account reconciliations to validate accuracy and completeness.

Audit & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary contact for treasury, internal stakeholders, and external auditors.
  • Coordinate audit activities, ensuring timely delivery of required documentation and adherence to deadlines.
  • Collaborate with finance counterparts across the organization to align on best practices and standardization initiatives.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (food processing preferred)
  • Strong controllership experience, including operational accounting, standard costing, and financial analysis
  • Solid understanding of applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business acumen
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems
  • Excellent time management and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
