Controller Position
The Professional Division of Spherion Mid-Ohio is partnered with an established and growing company in Sandusky, Ohio seeking a Controller with a salary up to $100K based on skill set & experience. This role offers a flexible work schedule with the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement after training, while maintaining a strong onsite presence to support the business.

This hands-on Controller will oversee the organization's day-to-day accounting operations with a strong emphasis on payroll, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and process improvement. This hands-on role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys creating processes and structure and helping a growing organization succeed.
Responsibilities of the Controller:
- Oversee all daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close
- Prepare journal entries, bank reconciliations, financial statements, and other monthly financial reporting
- Manage payroll processing, payroll tax filings, W-2 preparation, and payroll compliance requirements
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements
- Oversee inventory accounting and implement improved inventory control and processes
- Maintain fixed asset records and ensure accurate tracking of company assets
- Develop, document, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Create and manage an annual accounting calendar to ensure timely completion of all financial deadlines
- Partner with leadership to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiencies
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial analysis
- Support ERP system utilization and recommend process improvements
- Provide leadership and guidance to accounting support staff while remaining willing to perform day-to-day accounting responsibilities as needed
Requirements of the Controller:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant role
- Strong hands-on experience with payroll processing, payroll tax compliance, and year-end reporting
- Experience managing inventory accounting within a manufacturing, distribution, equipment rental, wholesale, construction, or similar inventory-driven environment
- Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Experience implementing or improving accounting processes and internal controls
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel; ERP experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Confident communicator who can build relationships, influence change, and navigate a dynamic business environment
- Willingness to work primarily onsite in Sandusky with occasional travel to the satellite location as needed
