Job Summary
Seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, troubleshoot, and support industrial control systems, PLCs, HMI/SCADA, and machine connectivity for production environments.
Title: Controls Engineer
Location: Columbus, Georgia
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support industrial control systems using Siemens and Allen-Bradley platforms.
- Program and troubleshoot Siemens S7/TIA Portal and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix PLCs.
- Configure and maintain Kepware (KEPServerEX) for data acquisition and OPC communications.
- Develop and support HMI/SCADA systems including WinCC, FactoryTalk View, and Ignition.
- Integrate shop-floor equipment with MES, SCADA, and IT/OT systems using OPC UA/DA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet, and EtherNet/IP.
- Troubleshoot production equipment to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
- Support connectivity projects involving CNCs, CMMs, test equipment, and legacy manufacturing systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Document system architecture, tag structures, data mapping, and system changes.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and IT teams on controls and automation projects.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs S7-1200/1500, TIA Portal, and WinCC.
- Strong experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Studio 5000/RSLogix, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and FactoryTalk View.
- Experience with Kepware (KEPServerEX) configuration, drivers, and OPC communications.
- Proficiency in PLC programming using Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including OPC UA, Modbus, Profinet, and EtherNet/IP.
- Experience integrating controls with MES, ERP, or cloud platforms.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Experience with CNC and inspection equipment is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Omron PLCs/Sysmac Studio and Heidenhain controls is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
