Title: Automation Controls Engineer

Location: Corinth, Mississippi (100% Onsite)

Employment Type: Fulltime Permanent with AXISCADES


Responsibilities:


Design, develop, and enhance electrical control systems and electro-mechanical systems for manufacturing equipment

Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC, HMI, and automation systems across production lines

Support integration of robots, vision systems, and automated stations

Diagnoses and resolve control system failures to minimize downtime


Manufacturing Support & Continuous Improvement


Provide day-to-day support for manufacturing operations and equipment reliability

Identify and implement improvements in process efficiency, quality, and cost

Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts for equipment/process issues

Support commissioning new equipment and upgrades

Typical examples of work previously outsourced include:

PLC programming, system upgrades, safety modifications, and automation integration


Digital & MES Integration


Support and expand MES (Manufacturing Execution System) capabilities

Enable traceability, digital workflows, and manufacturing data capture

Collaborating with IT and engineering teams on MES enhancements and deployments

Ensure proper change control, system backups, and documentation


Safety, Quality & Compliance


Ensure all controls solutions meet safety standards and environmental requirements

Participate in process change control (PCN), PFMEA, and control plan alignment

Standardize controls approaches across equipment and sites

Support implementation of safety upgrades and compliance improvements

Ensure all safety systems comply with regulatory standards, such as ISO 13849, IEC 62061, OSHA, and ANSI B11.

Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety concerns.


Cross-Functional Collaboration


Work with manufacturing engineering, operations, maintenance, IT, and suppliers

Coordinate with external vendors and integrators when required

Provide technical guidance and support for plant projects


Scope of Work (For Third-Party Suppliers)


Provide on-site and remote controls engineering support

Perform:

PLC/HMI programming and debugging

Automation system integration

Equipment upgrades and retrofit projects

Safety circuit modifications

Commissioning and validation

Support troubleshooting requests with defined response time SLAs

Participate in project-based work and ongoing operations support

Deliver documentation:

Electrical schematics

Software backups and revision control

Standard work and troubleshooting guides


Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in:

Electrical Engineering Mechatronics Computer Engineering or related field

Experience with:

PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.)

HMI/SCADA systems

Industrial automation systems

Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills

Knowledge of manufacturing systems and industrial equipment

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Functional Safety Engineer (CFSE) or similar certification.

Experience with industrial robots and robotic safety systems.

Familiarity with machine vision systems for safety applications.

Experience conducting risk assessments and HAZOP studies.
