The Data and Analytics organization at NiSource is the recently established advanced analytics arm of the company. We are building a talented team that is leveraging best-in-class tools and techniques to solve our company's highest value analytics use cases. This position will be on the customer analytics team, which supports all the possible interactions the business has with customers (billing, communications, site visits, etc.). The Lead Data and Analytics Developer designs, develops, and supports customer-focused data and analytics solutions that deliver measurable business value. In this role, you will partner closely with business stakeholders to understand complex challenges, prepare and transform data, and develop analytics, visualizations, dashboards, and self-service tools that drive informed decision-making and improve business outcomes.

As a technical leader, you will help establish and promote data engineering, analytics, governance, and stewardship best practices while ensuring solutions are sustainable, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards. You will lead the development of complex data products and visualizations, mentor and coach team members, review and delegate work, and provide guidance on technical design and implementation. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to navigate ambiguity, and a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions that meet both business and technical needs.

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Acts in the capacity of subject matter and business intelligence expert for customer analytical technologies and drives adoption of self-service analytics capabilities to achieve value objectives within the business

  • Develops and implements analytics solutions (including but not limited to data models, data sets, reports, dashboards, and integrated analytics) to solve business needs, accelerate insights and inform actions and adhere to data governance and BI policies and standards

  • Consults with Data Product Owner on the design of the Data Lake to maximize the quality, accessibility, and re-usability of data

  • Establishes, promotes, and monitors adherence to policies and standards for business intelligence products

  • Partners with IT to ensure the technical stability and performance of user facing technology and establish upgrade strategies and roadmaps

  • Develops a strong understanding of customer business processes, company enterprise platform, and table structures/relationships to extract and report correct data

  • Creates a strategy to develop interactive dashboards and promote their adoption/use with stakeholders at all levels of the organization

  • Develops and manages personal and team deliverables, timelines and milestones related to assigned projects

  • Is an expert in at least one coding language for shaping and extracting data and has a working knowledge of others (Python, SQL)

  • Understands advanced approaches for data quality monitoring and the impact of quality issues on the effectiveness of analytics

  • Understands how data science can be applied to improve insights and lead to predictive and prescriptive solutions

  • Acts as an internal consultant and partner for business teams to advance analytics maturity across the enterprise to include providing strategic insights, identifying opportunities, developing strategies, and mentoring staff

You mustpossessthe below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to theminimumrequirements and are considered a plus factor inidentifyingtop candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of experience in fields related to data engineering, business intelligence (visualization/dashboard/reporting), or data science

  • 5+ years of experience with data acquisition methods and tools (Tableau Prep, SQL, Python, PowerBI)

  • 5+ years of experience with data visualization or analysis software (Tableau, Excel, Cognos Analytics, PowerBI)

  • 5+ years of experience coding for shaping and extracting data (Python, R, SQL, Prep Tools)

  • 2+ years of experience leading analytics developers or projects

  • Experience working with relational databases

Preferred Qualifications

  • Related experience in the utility industry

  • Experience with statistical modeling

  • Experience as a data steward and knowledge of data governance

  • Strong business acumen
