Critical Facilities Engineering Intern

The Critical Facilities Engineering (CFE) Intern supports the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role offers hands-on exposure to electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, and building automation systems in a high-reliability environment, while working closely with experienced professionals. This internship program is designed to build foundational skills, safety discipline, and technical curiosity for a long-term career in data center operations and facilities engineering.

Location: Dallas TX

Duration: 12 weeks September-November

What You'll Learn & Experience

  • Gain hands-on exposure to critical infrastructure systems including power, cooling, HVAC, fire systems and building monitoring systems (BMS)
  • Learn how data center facilities are operated, monitored, and maintained in a 24x7 mission-critical environment
  • Develop foundational skills in incident response, risk-based facilities management, and preventative maintenance
  • Build strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, documentation, and safety awareness skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Facility Technicians and Engineers with daily data center operations and maintenance activities
  • Support routine preventative maintenance checks and basic repairs on non-critical facility components under supervision
  • Participate in site walkthroughs to identify and record faults or abnormalities such as water leaks, unusual noise, or equipment issues
  • Maintain accurate logs, work orders, permits, and maintenance records, including Maintenance Operation Protocol (MOP)
  • Monitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and assist in responding to basic alarms following standard operating procedures
  • Support incident management activities, escalating findings to Engineers as required

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High School Diploma or relevant technical/ vocational education
  • Interest in or exposure to HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems or maintenance
  • Willingness to work on-site in data center environment
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and willingness to learn
  • Customer-focused mindset and strong teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as climbing, stooping, and manual handling (with or without accommodation)
