Senior Data Engineer – Richmond

Permanent full‑time role based in Richmond.

Where the team fits in

This role sits within PropTrack. PropTrack provides property data and technical platform solutions to customers in the financial and government sectors. The Engineering Team within PropTrack works together to deliver solutions to our internal and external customers. It is the core delivery centre for developing solutions to meet customer priorities and align with PropTrack's technology strategy. Within PropTrack, this Senior Data Engineer role is part of the Core Property Data (CPD) team. CPD is responsible for building and operating property‑centric data platforms and APIs that power a wide range of internal products and external data solutions across REA and PropTrack, with a particular focus on Prime, our next‑generation property data platform.

What The Role Is All About

• Designing, building and maintaining data pipelines, models and APIs across ingestion, transformation and consumption layers.
• Contribute to and lead technical design and architecture discussions, helping shape how our data, property datasets and APIs evolve to support current and future use cases.
• Work with technologies such as Airflow/Breeze, BigQuery, Kafka and modern backend languages (e.g. TypeScript/Node, Python) to deliver accurate, timely and reliable property data.
• Enhance existing products, including resolving data quality issues, improving performance and implementing scalable patterns.
• Support production systems by contributing to monitoring, observability, automation and operational best practices.
• Ensure the reliability, security and resilience of our systems in line with REA's "you build it, you run it" philosophy.
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts and product managers to understand requirements and design high‑quality, user‑centred solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers in your squad, lifting engineering practices and supporting less experienced team members.

Who We're Looking For

• Strong API experience required in owning, building and integrating APIs.
• 5+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering, full‑stack software engineering or platform engineering, with a focus on data‑intensive systems at scale.
• Strong programming skills in at least one modern language (e.g. TypeScript/Node.js, Python) and strong SQL capability for analytical and production workloads.
• Proven experience building and maintaining data pipelines and data models using tools such as Airflow/Breeze and BigQuery, or equivalent orchestration and warehouse technologies.
• Solid understanding of data modelling, data quality and data governance practices, and how to apply them in large‑scale property or transactional data environments.
• Experience working with cloud platforms (GCP and/or AWS) and DevOps concepts such as Docker, CI/CD and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation).
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve data quality issues, performance problems and production incidents in distributed data systems.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with engineers, analysts, product managers and other stakeholders as required.
• A curious, pragmatic mindset with a passion for building reliable, scalable data solutions that deliver real value for customers and internal teams.
