Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a high‑performing data team in Canberra, working on the Palantir Foundry platform. This mid‑level, hands‑on engineering role involves building and maintaining production data pipelines and owning defined workstreams end‑to‑end under the guidance of senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain end‑to‑end data pipelines in Palantir Foundry, from raw ingestion through to curated datasets and Ontology objects
  • Implement Ontology objects, links and actions in line with defined solution designs
  • Develop and optimise PySpark transformations for performance, scalability and cost efficiency
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to deliver high‑quality, production‑ready data solutions
  • Pair with and review work from junior engineers, contributing to capability uplift
  • Investigate and resolve pipeline failures, participating in support and on‑call activities
  • Partner with analysts and business users to support Workshop‑based applications and tooling
  • Contribute to internal documentation, reusable patterns and engineering standards
  • Participate in continuous improvement of pipeline design, testing and delivery practices

Qualifications

  • 3‑5 years’ experience in data engineering or analytics engineering roles
  • At least 1 year building production pipelines in Palantir Foundry
  • Strong hands‑on experience with PySpark, including transformations, partitioning and basic performance tuning
  • Solid SQL capability across analytical workloads
  • Working knowledge of dimensional modelling (Kimball) or similar data modelling approaches
  • Experience owning and delivering defined workstreams independently
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to manage ambiguity in delivery environments
  • Exposure to Ontology modelling or similar data modelling concepts is beneficial
  • Experience with Foundry applications (Workshop, Quiver or similar) is advantageous
  • Exposure to streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka or similar) is a plus
  • Familiarity with testing approaches such as data assertions, contracts or lineage is desirable
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams
