Role Overview

As a Data Operator, you will be the frontline guardian of a live trading environment, ensuring that business-critical data pipelines run accurately and smoothly around the clock. The core mission of this position is to verify the integrity of incoming trading data from external providers, solve live operational emergencies, and develop internal software solutions alongside the team. In your first 6-12 months, you will master the daily operational checks and transition into taking on partial development shifts, directly impacting the firm's efficiency by building and enhancing their internal data processing tools.

Main Responsibilities

  • Monitor real-time logs and notifications (via SMS and email) across data processing pipelines to ensure seamless and correct data handling.
  • Verify that all incoming trading data is accurate, up-to-date, and correctly aligned with previously placed trades.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve live emergency technical issues, escalating complex problems to the appropriate technical support tiers when necessary.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts and external data providers to identify and correct missing, ambiguous, or faulty data.
  • Perform detailed "start of day" and "end of day" quality checks on all data feeds, alongside post-processing analysis, to guarantee high-quality data delivery for the analytics team.
  • Develop and test internal software tools and data operations systems to improve team efficiency, utilizing your coding foundation.
  • Engage in a supportive and collaborative team dynamic, assisting data teams as the role and the business evolve.

Must-have required skills and experience

  • 1-2 years of hands-on experience in a production, operations, or software engineering environment (strictly theoretical backgrounds are not a fit).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot basic computer issues, including network connectivity problems, hanging processes, and high disk/memory usage.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a proven track record of effectively liaising with external vendors and internal staff.
  • Strict Requirement: This is a data operations and development role; candidates heavily focused on Data Analysis, AI, Machine Learning, Statistics, or data visualizations (such as Tableau or Power BI) will not be considered.

Nice-to-have skills

  • A conceptual understanding of web scraping, APIs, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) file processing.
  • Knowledge of code management techniques using Git and/or Bitbucket.
  • Basic understanding of AWS or similar cloud infrastructure services.
  • The ability to understand, write, and execute SQL statements.
  • Exposure to the software development lifecycle (SDLC), building web interfaces, and testing principles.
  • A personal interest in sports is considered a fun bonus, though not required.

Logistics & Compensation

  • Location/Work Mode: Onsite in downtown Toronto. This role requires working 5 days a week in the office, which generally includes one weekend day to support continuous operations.
  • Employment Type: Permanent (30 hours per week).
  • Benefits/Perks: 20 days of paid vacation (4 weeks), 5 paid sick days, and a structured internal growth path from Data Operator to Mid-Level and Senior Operator roles.
