Data Protection Officer / Head of Legal & Compliance

About the Role
We are looking for a strategic and experienced Legal & Compliance Leader to oversee enterprise-wide governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management. This role will serve as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and trusted advisor to leadership, ensuring the organization operates in full compliance with Philippine and global regulations.
You will play a critical role in safeguarding the business, strengthening compliance frameworks, and driving a culture of integrity across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Legal & Governance
- Ensure compliance with Philippine laws, corporate governance, and regulatory requirements
- Lead contract drafting, review, and negotiations across the organization
- Manage litigation, disputes, and regulatory matters in coordination with external counsel
- Support board governance, filings, and corporate legal requirements
- Oversee intellectual property protection and usage
Data Privacy & Compliance
- Serve as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and ensure compliance with the Data Privacy Act
- Act as the liaison with the National Privacy Commission and regulatory bodies
- Lead implementation of privacy, compliance, and risk management frameworks
- Develop and enforce policies on data protection, ethics, anti-bribery, and governance
- Conduct compliance audits, investigations, and employee training programs
Risk Management & Controls
- Identify and mitigate legal and compliance risks across the enterprise
- Ensure adherence to global compliance programs and internal controls
- Establish and monitor KPIs, metrics, and compliance dashboards
Stakeholder & Leadership Engagement
- Advise executive leadership on legal, compliance, and strategic risks
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Operations, and global teams
- Manage relationships with external counsel, regulators, and government agencies
- Lead and develop legal & compliance teams
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in legal, compliance, or regulatory roles
- Strong expertise in Philippine laws (corporate, labor, data privacy)
- Hands-on experience with the Data Privacy Act and regulatory compliance frameworks
- Proven leadership experience in multinational or shared services environments
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills
Preferred:
- JD or Law Degree (not mandatory)
- Background in Healthcare, BFSI, or Technology/ITES
